21 versus 23mm: Do I really care?

I can get the new ProRace3’s quickly and easily in 23mm. I ran 23’s previously but measured and it looks like the 21’s would be a “better” aerodynamic fit for the front. Do I really care?

I am sure that the ST Tire Police will weight in on this, but what you want to do for your race wheel is get the best rubber that you can get. Don’t over think it - the differences are likley not that big. I don’t know about the new Michelin tire( the Pro 3’s) but if it’s the same or perhaps better than than the Pro Race 2’s then that’s a great tire to choose - it consistantly scores high with rolling resistance, durability and comfort. What’s not to like.

Hi,

Please place PR2s and PR3s together and you will notice a significant difference in ACTUAL width of the two tires.

Deepending upon your rims the 2s will be 24-ish width

3s will be 22.5-ish

I use and recieve for use virtually every tire that matters, or looks promising.

IMHO, and yes, I am a RAGING H-Hole! The boys and girls at Michelin are putting all their efforts in MotoGP 250/800cc into rapidly improving all aspects of their high-end performance bicycle tires, from rubber compounding to casing design.

Because it helps explain the choices

Assuming you are talking about race tires, keep in mind the rim profile. For example, Zipp rim is optimized for size 21 tire. I think some some older Hed’s are more like 20 or even 19. I run the 21 up front and 23 in the rea and figure that is a good compromise of aerodynamics, RR and comfort.
