Is your goal to find some bet with a positive expected financial value to you? Given the tax laws on gambling gains and losses, and the transaction costs, that is difficult. Though, the Brewers seem to be a much better value than the Dodgers.
Or, is your goal to have some fun with it? If that’s the goal, then bet a long-shot, like the Brewers/Rays exacta.
My understanding is that all gambling income is taxable. If it’s less than $1k then the payer does not need to give you a form, but that’s separate from your obligation to pay taxes.
In any event, this couple has, collectively, done quite a lot of gambling, judging by what the casino has comped them.
I mostly just bet for fun, but I’m always trying to squeeze a few bucks out of it. Winning is way better than losing.
A win is only reported to the IRS on a W2G if it is over $2,000 and it payed over 300:1. All of these World Series bets pay way less than 300:1, so a win would not be reported.
I am usually in Nevada twice a month to play craps, so there wouldn’t be any extra cost to place a sports bet.
Not a bettor but gotta love what my White Sox have done this year. They have no chance at winning it all but they sure have turned it around and made it fun to watch.
The White Sox were 7-6 against them for the regular season so that is a safe bet. Frankly I’m thrilled with how they’ve performed. This is all just icing on the cake for me.
as an aside, I wouldn’t mind seeing San Diego win it all. Just to have a team who hasn’t won it before get it.
On Friday (October 2), I was back at the Silver Legacy and won some money playing craps and decided to randomly add it to my exacta picks before any of the next round of games was played. This is what I added with their current odds…
