2026 Bike Racing Thread ***SPOILERS***

I hope there is nothing like that, but I wouldn’t be shocked.

The most recent I’ve seen officially is that Cat 1 Masters loser nailed for doping a few days ago. I hope he felt big on the podium for a few minutes while he cheated others.

Maybe Matxin is still glowing from 30 years ago? That is quite possible.

Does a Gran Fondo world champion count as seismic?

Hope it’s not something worse.

Not that it’s a recent positive, but I think I’ve heard Wiggo has insinuated there are some revelations forthcoming from his time on Sky.

That’s an awful rumour to be going around with zero evidence, bloke decides to go out while he’s at the top and these are the consequences.

MvdP is bored of training again and will be crossing tomorrow!

Isn’t that like literally a day after he announced he’s skipping the race to build endurance for the road season, he’s like “never mind, gotta race”?

Every racer prefers racing over training :face_with_tongue:

Grace Brown is superb as a commentator for those who didn’t hear her at TdU.

Good stuff today. Fun to see Orts fight for podium at home.

Good on him and bonus points for the he and the winner showboating across the line. I’m a sucker for a good celebration.

Orts going for 3rd was the best part of today’s racing. And Nys was a class act to take him with him.

Only thing I’m perplexed about is whether vdP’s no-hands standing up salute, or today’s one-handed wheelie is more impressive

MvdP did a 3 hour endurance ride before the race yesterday. He is just on another level.

The way he (seemingly) unintentionally rode TdG off his wheel after one lap, with ease, was something. If his training is going that well I can see why he’s itching to race.

Side note: wonder if anyone is thinking “let him win worlds (as if can be stopped by anything but bad luck) so the rest of us can race for wins next year.” Which will essentially shift the vdP problem to the mountain bikers.

much like last year (every winter?), I lost the wheels and had to do a lil chasing to find 2026 ‘spoilers’. mea culpa.

mid atlantic winter has been a bit colder than usual (is that just the 58 year old in me typing?), but I think I can see Omloop on the horizon (and Strade and MSR). TDU Women’s stage 3 (classic 3v1 (Stannard/Powless) battle got my antennae back up - nice one Noemi (Bahamas song?). a few 2026 thoughts - I’m wondering if Pogi’s level has peaked such that the current almost phenoms are getting closer (like Vinge did in ‘22 and ‘23). If so - I have to think Pogi will keep last year’s cannibal like pace of win all the shiny races he can. Scarily - I don’t think MVDP’s level has peaked - MSR/Flanders/PR beware - is Liege in the cards? Also, with the almost big 2 (Remco, et al) getting super close - I have to think any bad days/crashes/caught out of position = the stranglehold the big 2 have on any race they enter is about to decline. On a different note - I feel like the level of any pro tour rider is so high that when a team can only field 6-7-8 racers per event - there are MANY TEAMS whose best 6-7-8 are up there with the super teams. I think this means the steamrolling of UAE’s great line ups might not pop as many guys and other teams could take up similar tactics of drilling it after splits (and prob after crashes) when they have the whole team in front. c’mon Omloop and friendly March mid atlantic weather!

Have you seen next week’s forecast? Florida is starting to have some appeal.

I keep wanting to get out with my son, as he refuses to ride the zwift bike and every weekend has been too cold but one. It’s getting old.

Yeah, but then you have to be in Floridastan.

It really is. I’ve been sucking it up and riding outdoors like usual but retreated to Zwift this past Sunday. I really don’t enjoy indoor riding at all, but looks like there’s going to be a lot of it on the menu.
