2026 Bike Racing Thread ***SPOILERS***

He ought to get that checked out by a medical professional.

Astana does the unthinkable again.

Wow. That was… something. I love that Astana does these things, though I do sympathize with the riders who have to participate in this.

As Gee-West’s national champs jersey…. I really hope that is just a rushed placeholder. Skujins’ jersey was more of a proper three-band flag, so I’m hoping there’s something better in store than all-white with a tiny maple leaf over the belly button. I like what Allison Jackson has done with her national champs kit at St. Michel.

just a general comment, catching up on all the recent CX racing, it’s good to see Flo Sports forging its way into 20th century with their proper downloadable smart TV app…fuckin’ YAY!

Usually things improve the second time around. That video is an exception to the rule.

Whoever designed that jersey needs to do some navel-gazing. The contemplation would do them good.

They didn’t show the back of the jersey

they needed to do something to distract people after word came out this week that they had a third rider pop a doping +/whereabouts failure over the course of the season that saw them go from last to fourth in the World Tour rankings

Vino would never allow shenanigans on his watch, especially under the watchful eyes of his esteemed sponsors. (This would be pink, but I couldn’t figure out how to do that.)

I did not see this one coming. Simon Yates is retiring. What a career arch from the Finstre implosion in 2018 to the Finestre and Giro win last year. What a class rider who will sorely be missed.

Huge surprise, beyond him personally this leaves a massive hole in Visma’s lineup and might only add to UAE’s domination.

There were rumors that he wanted to do this after the Giro win, but that faded a bit with rest. He showed up for training camp and it hit him again that he was done.

That might have been my favorite day of the season. Sunday in Rome, them meeting the Pope, and then Yates celebratory ride.

If you really want to read into this, it confirms Jonas is focusing on the Giro. Otherwise, depending on how bad his burnout was, you could see him returning to the Giro to defend and wear the #1, and then retiring. Probably no incentive to do that if you’re sharing leadership with Jonas.

This take makes sense. I’m pretty sure even a few weeks ago Yates was expressing interest in defending his Giro title, and he’s been doing the preseason media stuff as normal. We get the news Jonas has an agreement with RCS to ride the Giro and within a couple of days Yates announces his retirement.

I missed the RCS announcement. I wonder if that news took Yates by surprise.

I don’t think there’s been an official announcement, but it’s been reported in various media outlets that a deal has been struck, and that a formal announcement should be forthcoming.

Strange decision by Yates to retire, had another couple of years in him surly.

Rumors floating around that there is ā€œmore to the storyā€, so seems pretty likely that some version of this is correct, and the team maybe wasn’t as supportive of him as a reigning grand tour champion would expect.

NOT the retirement announcement we’ve been expecting, but a pitch to support a rhino preserve
