2026 Bike Racing Thread ***SPOILERS***

Oh man, they’re throwing TDG to the wolves. But would be great to see both him and Bernal go well. Is Capt America on start list?

I’m sure Ferris already has Big Sexy in his sights as a new raison d’etre.

I’d love to see the kid give Ferris hell but who knows how he handles the gravel bedlam. He def has moxie or whatever the French call it.

Apparently Big Sexy actually has more experience riding the white gravel roads of Tuscany than Pog - there’s a junior Eroica stage race that he’s done twice.

And yes @Carl_Spackler, QS is on the start list.

sorry to be pedantic, but it’s bated breath

baited breath suggests someone getting trolled (took the bait) or worse a mouthful of worms. but then again, said nation is known for eating snails, which serve as excellent baits and are also eminently edible when prepared right, so perhaps baited breath for France is okay?

Panache! And Big Seixi certainly has it. I would love to see him take Pogi down.

Good catch, and no reason to apologize, I’d expect nothing less from our resident pedant. You are, of course, correct, and I appreciate the gymnastics involved with trying to make “baited” work here.

Besides snails, French cuisine is actually full of items that are also used as bait: frogs, sardines, crayfish, etc. so there are probably plenty of French cycling fans with baited breath, though obviously that’s not what I meant.

Back to Strade: Vollering is coming in looking great, Niewiadoma is in the conversation too. Hoping for a better showing from Kopecky, and we’ve also got PFP, Vos, Pieterse, Lecourt, ELB and the world champ joining in. A lot of riders with unknown form but dangerous potential. Plenty to be excited about in both races.

Alright. Have been staring at the list all night.

Del Toro, Big Sexy, Pog
MattyJo, Pellizari

I’m going with either Tadej has some bad luck (puncture), or there is a plan to let the kid try and go here, so Pog in turn can use him as perfect springboard in MSR.

Seixas, Pogi, Pidcock

Del Toro, Wout

If I were Pidcock or anyone else, I would be constantly attacking Pogi on the descents.

It makes perfect sense that Pog is all in for MSR, and that yet another Strade doesn’t mean all that much to him. He 100% will need DT in order to execute a race winning move at MSR. So yeah, I can see throwing the kid a bone here. If it comes back together when they hit Siena though… or if DT just doesn’t have it to get away from the likes of Piddles or Sexy, well, the big dog will eat.

It’s hard to argue with that list. I’ll go with Del Toro, Pogi, Pidcock, then Healy and Seixas.

Like that thinking. He has shown a willingness to reward teammates, like McNulty in Canada last year. Though I’m still torn that he’ll be looking to uncork a big day as prep for MSR.

whoa lots o folks have picks in way before I do. impressed. but, first - the long time Latin teacher in me loves that we combine cycling talk with occasional word etymology /usage. A recent word look up that brought me the kind of joy the word implies (and if I ever get the picks mostly right!) - lalochezia - joy from cursing (Damn it!).

Picks: Pogi / Del Toro / Seixas /// Pidcock / Quinn Simmons. I think Pogi solves the Seixas riddle with one too many brutal throw downs - then DT tails him and the DT kick nets him 2nd. Best of the rest - yeah that’s tough - so many to choose from. I think Pidcock is most likely but after that so many could be in the mix (and of course some will succumb to mechanicals/crashes). Looking forward to it - bc I’ll be riding during race - I’ll ask a trusted friend whether this one might be worth the FULL replay!

I’d love to see a Healy and Simmons breakaway where the peloton screws up and one of them gets the win. (preferably Healy)

Yeah I had Simmons in my pick and then replaced him with Seixas. He’s a good pick too.

Anyone know if this will be on HBO/Max?.

I assumed it would, but it’s not listed in the upcoming races menu. The next race they list is Tirano

I saw it wasn’t listed either. I contacted customer service and they said it will be on HBO. Fingers crossed.
Update; I contacted HBO again after reading some stuff online. HBO will not be carrying it now.

What’s the Latin word for “make the rain, fog and drizzle go away during daytime in the DMC?”

I’m going with a close pick to yours:

Pogacar, IDT, Big Sexy

Simmons, Crime Dog

I don’t, but a VPN plus SBS (free) in Australia is always a safe bet for the English language.

Too bad about the enshittification of everything, GCN+ was golden for a bit. That had to be stopped though because customers actually liked it and the original content.

Maybe its recency bias, but it feels like there is just a ton of bad luck going around this year.

Bling crashed in training and broke BOTH wrists.
