The window for Ottawa for Tri weather is June-Sept.
Ideally, you’d put the date mid-august much as with Lahti. Not sure if it being only two-three weeks from the full could cause issues though.

2018: 70.3 - IMWC 6 weeks
2019: 70.3 - IMWC 5 weeks
2022: IMWC - 70.3 3 weeks
2023: 70.3 - IMWC 7 weeks W, 3 weeks M
2024: IMWC - 70.3 12 weeks W, 7 weeks M
2025: IMWC - 70.3 8 weeks M, 4 weeks W
2026 ?? IMWC (M) Nice ?12 Sep, IMWC (W) Kona ?10 Oct
so the 70.3WC has to be (reasonably) 22/23 Aug or 31 Oct/1Nov (3 weeks apart)
Though I appreciate most (amateurs) on here disregard the T100 calendar, I think that in 2025 (and we saw this a bit in 2023 with PTO Singapore a week before Lahti) the 2025 70.3WC on 8/9 November will be a poor relation in the top Pros middle distance priority list as it will surely clash with the penultimate important race of the T100 World Championships Tour. Maybe wanting to race Marbella it will encourage contracted athletes to not miss any of the early T100 tour races allowing them a ‘pass’ to make room in their race schedule for it. We’ll see.
Having said that the athletes going ‘long’ after the Olympics will compete (as only a handful will get ‘hot shot’ T100 contracts).

For a one off championship that could work, but if they are gonna swim in the Seine, the Rideau canal would be way better !!!
It would have to be in September to be in Canada which would take take people out of the ironman worlds ?
Whistler in Oct is not tri weather and Ottawa I imagine is not either.
They could do it in august in whistler as a lead in to Ironman worlds . replace the IMC date in whistler .
They did the 70.3 WC in Mont-Tremblant in September 2014.

Yup but they only had Kona in Oct then and so many 70.3 athletes back then were due to kona fails, like a back up plan. now since we have Nice in sept it seems they want worlds after to get athletes doing both???
I am good with August for whistler.
Lahti was generally in North America and Europe summer vacation time frame which was nice to do at end of Aug. That was convenient time wise. All these world’s dates in Nov and Dec don’t seem to be in any vacation period for anyone (maybe I am missing something).

I think it comes down to don’t pull athletes away from your other races if it’s in nov or dec they will do a July august , sept race to prep.
And they are selecting places that are warm in those months.
Lucky me I can vacation when ever so I prefer leavening cold for warm anytime .
I think we have all agreed whistler august 2026 it is . Ironman take the memo.
I’m with Dev. Whistler is the perfect venue. Plenty of accommodations and things to do. Relatively easy to get to. Very challenging bike course even without the climb back from Pemberton that was used for the full. The run was no picnic either. Not that it was necessarily hilly but it was a constant up and down without a lot of flat sections.
I am going to be so disappointed if its not Whistler now! Its a fairly big trip from the UK, I went there 8 years ago on my honeymoon and have been dying to go back, to tie in with 70.3 Worlds would be so epic!
Whistler is an awesome venue (I did the full in 2014 and 2015), but perhaps this is just a bunch of us on ST wishing for the venue with no real validity. But the place can have a championship caliber bike and run course with a championshp caliber finish area and resort experience with reasonabley good flight connections and no more painful to get to from Europe than St. George (vegas) or from Asia or from South America.
I am heading to Penticton next weekend for the last IM race there (I am doing the 70.3). When Whistler was first announced, back around 2012 (for 2013), I felt it would be a far superior overall venue to Penticton, which I maintain to this date, (and I did Penticton full 6 times) , but Whistler was just too darn hard a course for full IM (I have to look at my files, but believe it had 2300m of vertical on run alone) . For half IM, a 1200-1300m vertical bike is just fine especially for championship.
But I think its just us making up fantasies about a Whistler venue!!! (short of me flying down to Tampa and pitching it and then getting on a plane to Vancouver an driving up to Whisteler and getting all the officials in Whistler to back it…seems like the wheels should have been in motion a year ago to make it happen)
Whistler was hard but not THAT hard lol - I had 6066 FEET on the bike and 1375 ft on the run in 2013. And the run got easier after that. I remember the first year Trevor Wurtele won (pretty sure) in like 8:47 or something and we were all that’s crazy…what a hard race. Then Marino came over, went 8:15 and I just thought - oh…that’s the next level haha.
Still…whistler was epic for all the years I raced it for sure.
OK here is the file for my 2014 Whistler bike split:
https://connect.garmin.com/...n/activity/554672517
For those who don’t want to click:
177km 5:28, 182 Ave Power, Normalized 197W (I was 64 kilos), 2206m total ascent (7279 ft) which feels about right as Placid and Tremblant are both around 6000 ft and this “felt” tougher than both. Could be a calibration thing on my Garmin though.
It’s kind of depressing looking at those numbers, 10 years later a decent 1 hrs ride on the trainer I am barely doing 200W and that 197W was all day 11 hrs effort power!!!
Getting back on topic, i don’t see how Whistler is a venue unless a bunch of things are already documented in the public record at City Council meetings (I did a brief google search and nothing came up on Whistler + City + Council + Ironman + 2026). But you never know if it is two years away it may yet be formally tabled. Generally if we know the suspect towns, we can google for minutes from town council meetings for approvals/rubber stamps/general discussion.
Maybe Penticton should apply !!!
2015 was the same 6094 feet. Run was still 1167 ft.
Don’t get me wrong - tough course. But I loved it. With that old course in Pemberton - there was like 50k of 0 feet elevation and everything being downhill…and other files on strava ranged from 5900 to 7200. So…accuracy!
Hey in 2015 at Whistler I have 2203m so between 2014 and 2015 my garmin was at least consistent!!!
I had ~6,300 feet on the bike for both years and 1,350 feet on the run.
Given the success of Challenge Quebec City, would anyone be surprised if IM tried to schedule 2026 worlds in that city one week earlier than Challenge?

It woudl be a great location, but is the bike course not a non starter for a one loop one way championship course?
Any news or speculation? Do they announce it historically near Ironman Hawaii? / 70.3 worlds.
Was also hunting for this today. The Marbella announcement was January 24, 2024.
Anyone know of any rumours out of Kona or do we need to withhold aid station support miles 20-26 during IM Kona from Andrew Messick…surly he must be in the know even if he “retired”.
If I could ask the ceo of Ironman one request. We need to know the worlds location , date and plans over 2 years out. ( like what is 2026 and 2027 kona )
I will be picking a race may or July depending on the location of the 2026 worlds .
I will have missed the flex 90 and people need to plan holiday leave and look into travel plan options etc.
Anyone know if they will announce the 2026 location in Taupo?
Think it’s time now… we are waiting… come on…
I was at the awards dinner at Taupo holding my breath, but crickets from the officials. Either someone started a rumour or there is some reality, but some people mentioning Swansea Wales.
