2025 bike racing thread *SPOILERS*

roger that, sorry. Misunderstood.

Lamperti will definitely be interesting. He’s… semi-developed? Definitely an emerging talent, but not all the way there yet. I really hope it works out.

Good thing this doping bug continues to only exist for lower level riders and none of the big guys.

Seriously I am bummed about this though. It’s disappointing though I’m glad at least people are held to account when things are clear. Unlike triathlon, where sex with a tainted partner still is a valid excuse to evade doping sanctions.

I hate to break it to you, but the accidental exposure to Ligandrol via intimate contact defense for Olympic/WADA signatory sport athletes has already been run all the way up through the CAS (Briane Harris case) and the result was the same as in the Simmonds case. You should absolutely expect that any case involving a cyclist in which a similar body of evidence is presented will have exactly the same outcome.

Oh I know, I was mostly being snarky. I do believe though that its a lame excuse and an athlete should be responsible no matter what.

Really? With all of the tainted meat stories, the test methods have moved beyond where strict liability is reasonable. Just because they can detect something doesn’t mean it’s providing a benefit.

Please don’t dig this thread down 6 feet under by discussing the Imogen-topic here also. :folded_hands:

Fair. I’m out of that discussion.

Back to what is normal….Patrick LeFevre is back to taking pot shots at people in the press. This time it’s Cav.

This should be a good weekend of CX with the Koppenbergcross.

Rui Costa is retiring. I won’t miss his style of racing.

Yeah, a bit of a rat. At some level I feel like I have to respect the results he’s gotten: that’s bike racing and strategies like his are one way to win a race. Doesn’t mean it still isn’t a shitty way to race.

No question, he’ll go down as one of the all time great wheel suckers.

So Nys said his goal this season is to dominate. Ominous start today. Feel bad for Mason as that would have been a dominant performance for him otherwise. He’s been looking good so far, shaping up to be a solid season for him.

I reckon Cam was faster or as fast as Nys on 90% of the lap but couldn’t match him on the Koppenberg cobbles.

I mentioned my disdain for his riding style to a former teammate of his. He said actually Rui is a great guy but his brother is a real muppet.

Seems right to me. You almost have to be just a great guy to be the guy that rides that way for as long as he has been that guy. Otherwise, someone is eventually just going to take you on a detour off the side of the road on a descent (seen it happen, and… ooph. ).

That’s basically every race Cam is in. He’s a great bike handler, and he can rail parts of that course in ways that very few can. Nys just happens to be one of those few, but he’s also got the tactical nous to know that holding something back for the Koppenberg itself is what wins this race. Having a bigger engine doesn’t hurt, either.

Some days you’re the hammer, some days you’re the nail. What a bad day out for Nys.

“Some days you’re the windshield, some days you’re the bug”

Some days your dad f**ks up the bike prep.
