Stage 7 1/30 The Rookie
Stage 8 1/31 Revolver + Violator + Half is Easy
Stage 9 2/01 ISLAGIATT

Who is in? I’ll have to buy a few more videos. I did it all last year on Trainer Road at 95%. Hope to pre ride a few of the new stages as part of my prep. Interesting that it doesn’t begin with a fresh FTP test.

Ugh. That Stage 8. Last year I had to drop down to 90% near the end. This year I’ll be lucky to hold 90% the whole time (I should probably do a fresh FTP test first), but i use the ToS as my kick in the ass to begin training for the upcoming season.

You could always push The Long Scream hard for 20 of the 30 minutes to get a new FTP value if you want
.

I don’t think Stage 8 is physiologically possible at 100% FTP.

Revolver 0:45 minutes 87 TSS 1.07 IF
Violator 1:08 129 TSS 1.06 IF
Half is Easy :38 minutes 52 TSS 0.9 IF

Total is 2:31 and 268 TSS on the 8th straight day of riding with intensity. Is this possible?

Well that sounds like fun! This will be my 2nd year participating. Stage 8 just sounds impossible anywhere near 100%.

Well since stage 8 is all about the max power you can throw down for short bursts, your FTP setting is somewhat immaterial. Just hammer whatever power you have left in your legs.

I’m in… I’ll be “Hurtado” by the end though.

I did it last year, but can’t do it as scheduled this year. I’ll be traveling during the last few days of this year’s ToS. I really enjoyed the suffering last year. Good luck to all.

Finally, the first year it doesn’t overlap with one of the biggest Mtb race series here in the south which is held on the first Sat of Jan, feb, and march. A 3:30 race in the middle of ToS sucked and took me out each year.

ETA, this year will be with a Kickr which is going to be interesting.

I’m in! Did it last year, as well as TR’s 8 Days in California, and truly enjoyed it. Not sure if it did anything to my fitness, but the challenge was tons of fun… and HARD!

I did 2013 and plan to this year as well. Somewhat looking forward to the suck.

So, I have been looking into this…Can you confirm how the Sufferfest videos work? Looks to me like:

  1. I download the App on my Ipad
  2. Pay the $9.99 a month
  3. Stream the video on my IPad and calculate the “Watts” based on my FTP
  4. Do I have it right?

This is one way to do it, but you can also buy the videos you needs and then they’re yours forever.

The videos aren’t power-based. They use an RPE scale from 1 to 10. They have a spreadsheet that matches those RPE numbers to %FTP though: http://www.thesufferfest.com/plans/mapping-ftp-rpe-hr-zones/

I just bought them and downloaded them in MP4 format to my computer. I know they have a streaming video subscription service, but haven’t used it. Not all videos are available as streaming.
As far as watts, all the videos are based on RPE with FTP being about 7 or 8. I pair the videos with a Trainer Road workout of the same name and use “virtual” power.

If you use trainerroad then the workouts are designed for the SF videos and will use your FTP
.

I’m in again this year. Did it last year at 100%, but I do not think I’ll be doing it at 100% this year, more like 90-95%. I’ll be in the final weeks marathon training and I don’t want to kill my legs.

This should be fun? I did it last year so up for seconds!

I’m new at TR. If you use TR, do you need the SF videos?

no. as long as you donate some money you’re in for the prizes from SF, and since you’re on TR if you finish all stages you’ll be in for their prize pool too. with that being said, the videos are entertaining, and worth picking up a couple here and there. the music is usually really good, they are comical and sometimes give that extra motivation to push through some difficult intervals.

to help you understand a little better:

-The workout are created already in Trainerroad, essentially you can ride it without the video.
-The videos just play while you ride the workout, it makes your workout so much enjoyable.
