1st choice is IMAZ - but unable to get there to volunteer and concerned there will be little or no online registration. Then again, IMWI did not close for weeks - very unusual. 2nd choice is Louisville - but concerned, with new Osctober date, Louisville will fill before I can try to register for IMAZ in November. Any thoughts on whether IMAZ will make it to online registration - or any source for info re: number of people registered for Louisville?
I posted on here wondering if anyone knew how close L’ville is to closing, no responses yet. I am/was in your boat. Tried to get in to AZ last year but trying to get in online was a nightmare. I vacillated for '15, but ended up picking L’ville with new date, and knowing I could get in without paying the Community Foundation spot. Should be a great race, I’ve heard great things about it! I expect it WILL fill soon for general entry.
You have plenty of time for Louisville. It traditionally does not close until a month or 2 before the race. Moving it to October has not hastened the pace of entries. Given the amount of IM races now in near the same spot I would think it will not close at all. Unless they reduce the amount of entries which would be helpful come race day.
If proximity to Louisville is good, just do it. It is a great course from all aspects I look for, fair swim (sometimes fast, sometimes slow), fair bike (far from flat but far from super difficult) and flat run with GREAT spectator support (at least in August). The move to October should mostly eliminate extreme weather so I anticipate a fast day next year. Lack of pro’s there will make it interesting for a handful of AG’ers vying for a win. I am doing my first Arizona this year with the major draw for me a chance to race late into the season to prevent a little less weight gain during that time of year. Nothing to add to pro’s/con’s here but my family is excited by the spectator friendly course in terms of the multiple loop run and bike.
Despite being in Kentucky, and in Louisville specifically, IM Louisville is supposed to be pretty good. I’ve only heard good things. I really don’t think it will sell out before IMAZ, so although you’re fine to just hang out and wait and see what happens with IMAZ, you should probably just do Louisville if you’re in the area.
