Fairmont, super easy. In upper village so away from the noise and crowds but an easy <10 minute walk to bus pickup in the a.m., finish line, course goes basically right by it, etc. Expensive but we got a decent rate. If you sign up for the president’s club (free) get free wi fi. Deli on the first level opens at 4 am I believe on race day.
Only caveat is the whistler site said they didn’t allow bikes but would have secure storage in some ballroom. I just came through a back door and took the bike right to the elevator, no one said boo.
I stayed at The Summit lodge for a training camp in July, it was maybe a block from the finish line. Not a bad place and their take on bikes in the room was “just make sure they are clean” in part because their storage area can’t hold more than a dozen bikes (or so). http://summitlodge.com/
For the actual event I stayed at the Whislter Village Inn, it was clean but a bit old. Between the two I’d stay at the Summit again.
There are some great condos in the area that are ~2 minutes walk from the finish.
We stayed in the Hostel Listel, it was very reasonably priced and a very nice place, and like all the places in the village very convenient-unlike many it had free continental breakfast !
We chose the Four Seasons and they did an incredible job. The whole hotel was race oriented, from concierge service to special race menus to bike tools out front. They even brought epsom salts and post race goodies to my room, with a congratulations that included my race time (without being told I was even racing). That being said, you pay for the pleasure. In my opinion, it was worth it!
The Westin is also great, and we have stayed there many times. They do have suites with kitchenettes, which is handy. Check to see what their policy is regarding bikes in the room…I know this was an issue with several of the hotels, and not sure where Westin landed on it. During training last year, I had to ask for permission to have my bike in the room, and had to sign a waiver.
Everything in Whistler Village is close to the race expo, etc. We found that being within walking distance was handy, especially given race morning road closures. There are, however, lots of great accommodations in Creekside and in the other areas. Check vrbo for condos, etc.
If you want a condo, look for the developments on Northlands Blvd (Sunpath, Lagoons, Northstar and one I can’t now recall). Cheap and super handy for everything.
