2014 Felt DA Question: Paging SuperDave

Dave,

I’m looking at the difference between the 2014 DA 3 and 4. Is there a difference besides the components and the carbon wheels? Mainly I’m asking about the adjustability of the front end. I had read somewhere that the DA4 does not have the mobility in terms of fit that the 3 and 2 have. Is this true, or did I imagine this?

You imagined it.

The DA3 and DA4 use the same frame and fork shape and lay up.

Practically speaking the length and width adjustments between the carbon bars and the aluminum bars are the same but technically the aluminum bars of the DA4 have more adjustment.
The X (fore-aft) and Y (up/down) range of adjustability is nearly the same. The aluminum base bars on the DA4 do not have any “index” or predetermined positions for the width of the extension mounts and have infinite rotational adjustment around the bar bore axis relative to the base bar. The DA3’s carbon bars have 4 different positions for the extensions and offer rotational adjustment around the bar bore axis with the base bar. The aluminum bars can be made in any width, we offer 39 and 42cm and have made other sizes in prototype form. The carbon bars have only one size and one mold.

The carbon bars are very minimal and more aerodynamic with Olympic medals to their credit.

Thank you Dave! That is exactly what I needed to know.

Hopefully I’ll be joining the FELT Mafia soon!

Wow. Great to see brands offering this type of support.

I’ve got the 2013 DA w/ the aluminum cockpit, which I think is the same setup as the 2014. I don’t know how bars could be more adjustable. Love it.

The 2013 and 2014 are ~96% the same. We changed the material and wall thickness of the aerobar extensions and some slight hardware changes to simplify the number of tools needed for adjustment.

Oh yeah. Search for FELT. Almost every time that word is mentioned, SuperDave is there with a response!

I’ve been burned by another major company on bike customer service before. You don’t realize how important customer service is until you have a major problem. But customer service like this gives some good peace of mind when dropping more money on a bike than either of your cars are worth.

Hey all

Is there a list of changes between the 2013 and 2014 models anywhere at all? As far as I can see, it’s only colour scheme, group set, wheelset? Reason for the question is that my 2013 was written off in a bump from a car and the insurers have offered the 2014 as a replacement, but are happy for me to pick any other bike in the same price bracket. Any changes to the rear brake setup, for example? Do really love my 2013 DA3 though…

Thanks!
