2013 Felt DA4 Rear Brake Not Working - Need Help

I had the issue with the neutral position, but not what you’re talking about. Is there another lbs you could have look at it? Or even another da you could ride to see if it feels differently?

See this thread:

Your LBS is selling you a fine line of BS, right there.

I’d take it somewhere else for a second opinion. Do you have pictures of the offending brake? I’m not familiar with the ones used on Felt’s DA4, but I’m guessing it’s probably a similar issue that you’d experience on any bike with spongy braking.

I know there are (and have read through) threads where users have complaints that the brakes don’t return to the “neutral” position, but my brakes feel like they don’t even move to an “activated” position at all.
Brakes are cable actuated; pulling the handle shortens the cable, loosening the set bolt pulling the cable and retightening the bolt is like pulling the handle without pulling it. Worked on my 2013 DA4.

for one of Felt’s “higher end” model ranges it seems crazy this is even an issue.
Remember, at the “higher end” there are less stoplights and traffic to avoid - brakes become less important. For a pro’s bike, the brakes are used, what, twice? At a turn around and the finish line, everything else is bike handling (of course simplified). Plus, the front brake is more effective (and easier to work on with the DA).

Do you have a inline barrel adjuster? Sounds like you have too much space in between your brake pads and rim causing you to have to pull your lever all the way before it contacts.

Main spring tension could be off (wrong holes) if it doesn’t feel springy.

This. If you look at your rear brake from underneath, how much space do they have to travel to contact the rim? They work way better if they’re really close - almost touching.

Sounds like you need a new LBS. Go have it checked out elsewhere or by someone who is competent working on bikes.
