2010 Trek TTX

So I was pumped to see the new TTX’s were up on Treks site. I’m still not sure about the color schemes, but one thing I did find very interesting is that all the TTX bikes are equipped with SRAM components. Every bike has either rival, force or red on it, not a single TTX bike is spec’d with Shimano. I love SRAM components, but I thought it was interesting that they weren’t even playing with Di2, nor appear to be setting themselves up to do so in the future.

Lance rides SRAM.

Are Bontranger wheels made by HED now? Or are they just HEDs with bontrager stamped on?

and, apparently, lance owns a significant part of trek bikes.

they are HED fairings on rims/spokes/hubs sourced by bontrager

Well… those of us who really care about having components we like just buy the frame and then build it up the way we like … project 1 lets you choose your own colors so you didn’t have to endure last years ugly timex colors

First I admit I don’t know a ton about wheel & race wheels. I managed to get a 2007 Transition Pro that came with Zipp 404s.

Here’s my question:

Thinking of the TTX 9.8 SSL that has the Bontrager Aeolus 5.0 ACC

What do y’all think of this wheel? I’m just curious.

The other bike I’m considering is the 2010 Transition Pro…

thanks…

Buy your race wheels separate from your bike?

Bontrager’s high-end wheels are worthwhile. Not amazing, but definitely not crap. Easily raceable. I wholeheartedly believe there are better wheels for the money, though.

I have the 5.0’s and really like them. They are not the ACC version though. Raced Placid in the pouring rain and they were great.

Uh - new Treks are fully Di2 capable, including a handy place near the BB to store the battery.

I have the Bonty Aeolus 6.5s, CC w/PT and they are simply amazing. Very fast, and VERY bulletproof. I have heard of some guys using them for cyclecross, but I wouldn’t have the balls to do that.

I didn’t know that are you sure the TTX is designed this way, or are you talking about the madones?

Thanks ggeiger, persondude27 & JimH!

I am wondering b/c hubby needs/wants race wheels. Deal is this though: He got the new bike last year, it is my turn. He was wondering & so was I if the Bontragers would work as race wheels for one of us. He’s a horse so he can pull a heavier wheel than I can easily. He thought one of us use the Bontragers and one of us use the Zipps…with the likely thought being me use whatever is lighter and hopefully looks best on my bike  (I’m a girl, I like to match…sorry I do.)

I just found out that I don’t have to get the WSD TTX 9.8…the regular TTX 9.8 SSL is coming in an XS for 2010 (THANK YOU TREK!) so it would actually fit me! And we know the 2010 Transition Pro would fit.

thanks again!

You are very welcome. I have a TTX with the Bonty 6.5’s and it is a very fast feeling, yet very comfortable machine. It’s the fastest, most comfortable feeling bike I’ve ever owned. I also am proud to support a manufacturer who is less than 1 hour away, and whose customer service is stellar! You will be very happy.
