2009 Zipp 808 Hub? Need Help!

Update: Bryan Hite and the Zipp Customer Service guys sent me a new end cap within 24 hours! They saw the post here on slowtwitch and contacted me directly to make sure that I could get the problem fixed and get my new 808 on the road! Kudos to their attention and listening to their customers through forums like slowtwitch! Thanks Zipp & Bryan Hite!

So I bought a 2009 Zipp 808 from Trisports.com and it arrived yesterday. I took the wheel out of the box and looked at the non-drive side of the hub. Noticed that there was no end cap for the nut to hold flush against. Called Trisports.com and they said no way that Zipp could possibly package and ship a wheel with no end-cap and if I wanted they could order me one.

So right now being a little pissed about the matter, I need someone to post a picture of their 2009 Zipp Rear Wheel Hub (non-drive side) so I can verify that I am not crazy! They keep telling me there is no way possible that this could have happened. I will try to get a picture of mine posted so you can see what I am talking about. But it would be a great help to see someone elses current hub!

Thanks in advance!

EDIT:

Ok I took some pictures and need to know from someone who know this wheels and hubs, 1.) Should I send it back all together! 2.) Can you help explain the pieces I am missing on the non-drive side. I think I am missing the dustcover & endcap but this is my first set and not quite sure what they should look like when they are complete hubs. (Sorry I am sure I sound like a dumb ass about now) See pictures below! P.S. I am thinking that someone in the shop pulled this wheel out because they pulled the plug on another wheel and lost the part, and then repackaged this wheel back up. (My pissed off conspiracy theory)

I think this is the way both sides of the box should have looked when delivered. With the plug on both sides?

Here is the way the non-drive side came delivered in the box! No cap!

Another View!

It looks like Tom D has a pretty nice picture of the hub right here. BTW, those are some nice photos Tom!

What really strikes me (sorry to go all off-topic on you) is the Stinger Disc photo. Man, my taped-one wheel cover looks cleaner!

I’m not really sure how they could claim “Zipp would never send out a wheel like that”. I mean, is the consumer going to pull off the end cap or something?? Mistakes happen–and I’m sure if they call Zipp, Zipp would send them out a cover N/C without hesitation. They’ve always been very good at customer support (just don’t expect them to send it to you directly–you’ll still have to go through the dealer most likely). If your hub doesn’t look like the one in Tom’s photo, I’d get back on the phone.

Was the box open from the store before you opened it?
Often times the end cap sticks to the plastic thing (that protects the hub) when you pull the Zipp wheel out of the inner cardboard sleeve. Check the plactic protective cap if you still have it- the cap could be stuck on there.
Has happened with about every Zipp wheel I have seen this year.

Can you take a look at the pics I reposted and see if you can help me out?

you aren’t missing the dust cover–you’re missing the end cap. any chance it’s stuck inside that plastic protective cap you pulled off?

You have a claim with UPS, or FedEx, not the shop who sent it.

There was no cap on the other side!

In my previous claims with UPS or FedEx I had to prove the exterior of the box was damaged. Nothing on the outside was damaged just missing the parts on the inside of the box. This is just a royal pain in the ass to spend $2000 on wheels from a shop and then have them tell me I must have done something wrong! Maybe I am just being unreasonable but I would expect a little more help from the bike shop…

Zipp cust. service is good- maybe just go through them instead of the shop?
They will probably put one in an envelope and get it right to you.

What you posted, exterior of the box was damaged…my big question…“was that a Zipp box”? If not, go after the shop…if it was a Zipp box, you call UPS.

exterior of the box was damaged? how so?

Looking at the photos on Tom D’s website, your wheels look as they are supposed to…i.e. exactly the same as his photos. You will need the skewers to mount the wheels. These aren’t included and are usually purchased separately.

I think the “hole” on the sides of the hub as shown in the pics provided are larger than the diameter of a skewer…something is typicall there (end cap?) that brings the diameter down to skewer size…me thinks anyway
