2009 TrainingPeaks WKO+ Version 2.2 - $100 everywhere?

Or, are there better prices out there somewhere?

Steve

Check out Raceday too
.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of each?

I’ve been going over all of the Endurance Nation stuff, and it looks like it’s all based on WKO+ calculations (PNorm, IF, TSS, etc.) Does RaceDay do the same calculations?

Thanks, again, for all your help, BTW.

Steve

Its basically the same. Go to Physfarm.com Dr. Phil has some articles to explain things. For me Raceday is just easier to use. WKO you can customize are really dig into what you just did. Raceday tells me what will it mean to me. Acouple things that Race day has that wko doesnt. It will tell you when to taper. If you do a weekly 3min power test on your bike then it will predict what you can do, good for peaking. Its specific for triathletes so you can have swimming information in too. The kicker for me is if I have a prob then Dr P helps me out. Ex. I was deployed in Feb, so I bought a new lab top. Dr. P switched my account to that computer without buying a new raceday. 2 weeks ago that computer crashed so I ordered a new one. He is going to do it again. He is on vacation and was still trying to figure out a way to help me. For that alone its worth it. Raceday comes out with upgrades every few months which are free.
The PNorm, IF, TSS are all basically the same, raceday uses differnet equations. Check out Dr. Phils book on training with power for the triahtlete. Great book.

Race day will also load straight from garmin and powertap(wko does this too).

I would do a 14 day trial of both and see which one you like more. To me the Taper and performance prediction is well worth it.

I have a copy of Dr. Phil book which is excellent, yours for 20 shipped

PM me if interested or if you want to know more about the book

Check out Golden Cheetah too. Its only for biking but Dr. Phil lets them use his bike score equations. Its free which is a plus. Another + for raceday he lets other people use his equations for the good of the sport.

You’re full of good info. Free is good!

I went through the same thing last year.

Search the forum I believe there is quite a bit on it. I know Dr. P posts on here too.

I do wish Race day gave options of input in metric or English. Pools switch over to yards/short course in the winter and I tend to record distances in miles. Other than that, it is pretty good.

The way it sounds from exchanging emails with Dr. P, thats the next upgrade we are going to get. Would be alittle easier on us. I think there is going to be a strength training tab. He posted something about it.

The new version will have metric / English conversion. RaceDay was initially developed for scientists / universities / performance centers, all of whom were more interested in metric than English. It was a relatively small change to make but was worth doing as the program has gained popularity with the rest of the sporting world.

(I’m suddenly reminded of Grandpa Simpson, who once said: “I say the metric system is the tool of the devil! My car gets fifteen rods to the hogshead, and that’s the way I likes it!”)

We just released an update that allowed importing WKO+ format files (thanks to Mark Liversedge for doing the work and making the file specification public), along with some other small details. Stay tuned for more details on Version 2, which is a huge upgrade and is unlike anything you’ve seen before

I prefer the metric as well for calculations (science), its so much easier. Unfortunately I get tired of the yard to meters conversion for yard pools. Its this one foot in metric system and one foot in English system. The new version will be nice, other than that I am very happy with the software.

Not sure if this is appropriate to ask: is there a tentative release date of the next version of RaceDay? Actually, more to the point, my intent is to buy the software in the next week or two. If the new update comes out shortly after that, will it require purchasing a new license? Thanks for the help.

Ditto on everything said here. I’ve been using Raceday for about 9 months and have been really pleased with it. Dr. Phil has been extremely helpful and very generous with his support. I also give his book another vote.

When I was looking at TrainingPeaks and RaceDay they both seemed similar. I chose Raceday for it’s tri specificity. It was built from the ground-up as a software for triathletes, not retrofitted to include run and swim. Also, nailing taper has been tough for me in the past so that element of the software was attractive to me.

One thing I’ll add about the software in order for it to work for you is you need to commit to testing regularly. I think the discipline of regular testing is tough for a lot of athletes. If you’re willing to test with regularity and use the software, you will get faster. If you’re looking for a training log save your money.

For Steve… I’ve enjoyed not having you in my AG this year so if you do decide on a PM and an app like RD, I’d prefer if you not use them after you age up.

If you buy raceday, the upgrades are free and will be emailed to you. If your on the border I would go with raceday over wko if you want to know what the training you are doing means. Wko is great for analyzing in detail the training you just did. Dr. P is great when trying to help you out. I havnt been able to use the taper, but the performance prediction is spot on 1-4 watts off.

I am also looking into both Raceday and WKO+. I downloaded the 2 week trial for Raceday, and played around with it for a little bit. From that, it appears that Raceday is a useful tool in looking at the bigger picture in training over the course of weeks and months, and not so much into the details of an individual workout. Is this correct? For example I couldn’t see where I can open a specific workout file and look at my HR or power profile during a workout. Is this possible or did I miss something? My trial is now over, so I can’t go back in to check.

Thanks.

That sounds interesting…can you give any hints as to the original ideas it will include?

Tentative release date is January 1, and there will be a free upgrade path for those who have bought RD in the preceding several months.

Like native Mac compatability?
