2009 S-Works Transition (Brakes)

Hi everyone,

I am in the process of rebuilding my 2009 Specialized Transition S-Works and want to change the rubbishSpecialized brakes that come with the bike for something else.

The problem is that the mounting holes are M8 instead of the normal M6 that all of the brakes I have managed to find come in.

I have found several posts about Transition brakes on the forum but haven’t managed to find anything that will help.

One post suggested the TRP 925s or Oval A700s, the problem is that my bike is Direct Mount instead of the single-bolt mount that the 925s or A700s have.

My question is:
Are there any Direct-Mount brakes that come in a M8 mounting bolt size instead of the standard M6?

I have looked at the TRP T850 Centre Pull brakes. Has anyone tried these on the Transition or know if they will fit (they look very similar to the brakes that the Transition comes with).

My only other thought was to drill the M8 mounting bolts out and thread them internally in M6 to create a M8 ‘collar’ to fit over a standard M6 mounting bolt brake caliper but I don’t think that there will be enough of the bolt left to thread it internally if I do.

Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

Omega X. Tri rig says they will work. They come width an adapter to work with direct mount.

Expensive but easy install/set up. Takes the headache out of things.

Thanks for the reply mknight84

That is a beautiful brake, wow!

The price though $189 each… 😮

If that’s all that’s available I better get saving!!!

I am sure they have cheaper options out there. That’s just the one off the top of my head. They run 10% sales on occasion. You can find them used for around $150 usually.

Yep, they work perfectly on the Transition. And yes, I believe there are cheaper brakes out there, but not better ones.

Thank you for the replies.

Is the Omega X compatible for below BB mount at the rear?

Thought that the magnetic cover may get clogged up with dirt and muck from the road when riding in wet conditions (I live in the UK so riding in the rain is quite common unfortunately)

Yes, it works front and rear on the Transition. Most folks don’t have issue with dirt down below, as the Front Plate helps cover most of the mechanicals. But some folks find they do need to clean it more often to prevent clogging.

Do TriRig still sell the Omega SV or has the Omega X replaced it?

Anyone know where I could get hold of a set of Omega SV brakes?

How do the SV Compare to the X?

Hi Tom,
As answered via email, SV is discontinued. X has replaced SV, and is superior in every way. You can see it’s many qualities on the Features tab at tririg.com/omega

Thanks!
