Anybody know what this means for other IM non-wetsuit swims? I just purchased a nineteen frequency speed suit for IM cozomel. Did i just piss away a couple hundred dollars?
Depends on the race. US-based ones all fall under USAT, so the list should still apply. Since Cancun is in Mexico, then it’s decided somewhere between WTC, the race director, and the Mexican triathlon federation. I’d suggest you email the race director and WTC to get clarification.
The Nineteen Frequency SS was USAT approved last year by head Referee Charlie Crawford. The list above is the FINA list. We never submitted a suit to FINA for approval. Main reasons: We were focussed on the tri market and the FINA rules seemed to be changing every few months. In hind-sight, this seems like a wise decesion!
Regarding IMH this year, it’s my understanding that the USAT rules regarding swim skins applies and thus, the Nineteen Frequency SS should be an approved suit for this event( it was used last year). I have contacted both WTC Head Official Jimmy Riccitello and Charlie Crawford for absolute confirmation about this.
I have a Blueseventy Pointzero that I bought last year. I dont know if it is pointzero2, 3 or whatever. It doesnt say on the suit. It has no sleaves, but has full length legs. How do I know if it can be used or not? I planned to use it at Louisville.
Thanks. I had tried the TYR Sayonara and I like it except water collects near the angles since the elastic is tight down there. I swam 5000 in it and when I got out of the water, I had to empty out a bunch. I always wondered why the blueseventy was “loose” at the angles and I guess now I know why - so water can drain out.
Surprised not to see the Desoto Liftfoil there … will that not be allowed?
I could be wrong, but since the Liftfoil has a pad in it, I wonder if it technically isn’t consider a speedsuit but instead a trisuit. Maybe that is why it isn’t on the list.
I have just spoken with Charlie Crawford Commisioner of Officials at USAT and have been informed that the Nineteen Frequency SS is indeed on the list of suits approved by USAT. He will be sending shortly an updated list to WTC/Ironman and hopefully they will in-turn update the list that they have posted up on line.

Mine doesn’t have a pad?? Of course it is from 2 years ago, so maybe they changed it? I’ve only used it twice in non-wetsuit races.
But not seeing it on the list also made me wonder. Then Fleck mentioned this is the FINA approved list and perhaps Desoto did not submit to them either.
Do you know for sure if the Blue Seventy Point Zero 3+ long leg is approved for Kona. It is on the FINA list of approved speed suits (does that mean it is approved for Kona) and I wore it last year in Kona with no problems. I just want to be sure. Thank you. Barry
Thanks for checking into this and seeing about getting it resolved. It was quite a shock to think I had just wasted my money. Once it is listed on the WTC website I will be a much happier camper.
I spoke yesterday at length with both Head WTC Referee Jimmy Riccitello and USAT Commissioner of Officials Charlie Crawford and essentially what will be allowed in WTC races this year for non-wetsuit swims, is any suit that appears on either the FINA list or the USAT list. Both lists are now posted up with links on the Ironman site now.
We did get a message yesterday stating that our Torpedo was authorized for WTC and USAT sanctioned races. I am just waiting for the official statement.
Just got an email as well from my friends at Zoot. The Zoot is on the list, just mislabeled as the Ultra SpeedZoot. Should be Zoot SpeedZoot, so that is a typo.
So far my takeaway is that if it is a triathlon speed suit, it is probably ok. If you are worried, chances are that someone here can find out for you, so just ask.
