Does anyone have any numbers on the 2008 Spec Transition (BB stiffness, wind tunnel results, etc)? I may be looking to unload a test-ridden-only p2C (about 30 miles total) in the hopes of getting one of those new Transitions, but not sure it’s worth the effort. Is there substantial aero advantage in the new Spec ride? They look pretty sweet…
I dare say the Specialized Transition is top tier, up there with the Cervelo P3, Felt DA and Trek TTX. But seriously, you won’t see very much of a difference switching between either.
What I do like about the Specialized is their specially made aero bottle that blends in perfectly with the down and seat tubes. That alone (knowing how much where you place you hydration factors into bike aerodynamics) would seal the deal for me if I were making a choice between two bike. But it wouldn’t be enough to make me switch from what I have…
What size is your P2C?
54 cm. the blue one. got a deal knowing i wouldn’t be able to ride/race this season, and now i’m thinking about the specialized. might be crazy…

what is that?
I’m just trying to get a hanlde on how much faster than a p2c the new bikes are, or whether the extra $$ might not be worth it.
I would be very interested in the frameset if you went for the Specialized.
Does it have the new style seatpost?
Have you registered it with Cervelo for the warranty?
Gotta check on the warranty- i have the paperwork with the bike in my basement- i’ll get back to you. i believe it’s the new style seatpost- were pre-2007’s different?
if i do sell, i’d rather do the full bike. still have some homework to do on the specialized also before i any move, especially if i’m going to do a frame purchase.
Ok, I am not in a huge rush, but would definitely be interested so let me know.
Yeah, the pre-2007 seatposts were different, the new ones have the two saddle mounting holes and then two smaller holes on the rear edge of the post. The new ones also are a little steeper I believe.
Like I said, keep me posted. I would much rather take the frameset, but maybe we could work something out.
It’s the new seatpost- just had a look.
I’ll stay in touch- hoping to avoid ebay if possible. A good offer would probably seal the deal, but i think only the s-works frame module is available in the new transition(?) which would make a frame sale less likely. hoping to learn more in the next week or two and then be able to make a decision soon.
Funny you should ask this… I went out and purchased a transition and a P2C in the same size. I recruited three triathletes with different body types (skinny, average and Clydesdale) and headed up to NASA Ames transonic tunnel with an 80x120 foot test section (a big ass tunnel). To minimize the number of runs, I made an accurate test platform that had 3 test stands that were mounted in parallel. My testing protocol consisted of the following: Speed (20 -30 MPH, 5 MPH step), Yaw Angle ( 0- 30 deg, 2 deg step), Bike only runs and Bike w/rider runs, Cadence 90 rpm, and FIST approved positions. These runs were repeated 3 times at the same temperature (Reynolds number) for repeatability and the entire database was tabulated. In my spare time I wrote a bike simulation with Monte Carlo capability. The simulation has the GPS coordinates of all major races in North America. It has a 20 year database of winds, GRAM 97. It accounts for the velocity profile of the wind close to the ground. I ran 1000 MC’s for each IM course with both the P2C and the Transition. I can provide this data if you want, PM me for details.
Do I detect just the slightest hint of sarcasm?
Mr. Reardon: Your dedication to the sport of triathlon is inspiring.
Next time could you include my single speed Huffy 626 project bike? Let me know where and when…
Dear Sir:
If you would like to sell your winds tunnel datas, please provide me with your full name adress, and bank account information whereby an associate of mine in London will deposit $7 million US in your account immediately. I am the deposed son of the assistant regional ambassador to the UN in Rhombolia and I am seeking asylum for my monies. Your confidences is much appreciates me.
Mr. Heywood J. Blaughmi Esq
Excellent, in case you need it my SS is 519-34-7658. I will use your seed money to purchase more time in the tunnel and construct my ultimate idea: a massive test platform that can house 100 riders at once (tunnel blockage will still be minimal, remember 80X120 feet). I will partner with coach Troy and we can have a massive Spinervals session in the tunnel. Each rider will get a personalized aero database on completion of the session.
