2008 Orbea Ordu Frame Creaking- Help

My wife and I both ride 2008 Orbea Ordu’s and both the frames CREAK extensively around the seat post area. Orbea replaced both frames due to this in the fall of last year and thay have started creaking again. Both seats are clamped properly, it creaks form the seat post collar and the frame.

Has any one out there had this issue with these frames- if so, can you pls. let me know what you did to fix it.

I have emailed Orbea to inquire as to what can be done and they don not respond to my e-mails.

As you can imagine, the thought of how much we spent on these bikes and to have them creak, click and pop while riding is completely frustrating.

Thanks for your help!

Did the shop apply carbon greast to the seatpost? It is called Tacx. Start there along with ensuring your saddle it tightened properly.

Thank you…Yes the seat post has grease on it and the saddle is tight. The creaking comes form where the seat post collar meets the frame. The seat post collar sits on top of the frame, it is held there by a screw.

I beleive there is an engineering issue with the frame.

I was talking with someone at the race in Oceanside last weekend and he has had two of those frames break in the seatpost area in the past six months or so. One broke when he was in Kona the week before the big race.

Orbea replaced the frame both times.

you should think about selling me your ordu if this continues
.

How about this between the seat post collar and the frame: http://www.trisports.com/fsa-installation-compound-friction-paste.html
Or even a thin layer on the screw.

Thanks for all the feedback- I will try the friction paste. I am now concerned about the frame breaking at ther collar- I believe it will and always it will be at the most unwanted time. I guess that is why Orbea is not repsonding to my emails…if it smells like shit it is shit.

PJohn- Give me $1000 US for the frame and fork and it is yours- let me know if you want pictures. I will even throw in the electrical tape that I use between the frame and the collar to stop the creaking. Mint condition although it will drive you crazy on a 120k ride.

…I have thought of putting both frames on ebay and taking the hit for buying new (different) frames however I will not pass these issues on to someone else nor am I made of money…guess I should have not gotten ride of my 2002 P3- that thing NEVER let me down. The worst $12K CDN I have ever spent (2bikes).

Time for a beer.

Woah, don’t give up all hope just yet. Carbon machines can REALLY be creaky. Take it to a different shop, and see what they have to say. The friction paste and a proper clean-up / rebuild really make a big difference. Most shops around here will do a cheap (~$20) “noise consultation” to figure out what’s up.

I had a creak in my road bike that I was convinced was the BB - turns out it was the brake cabling on the downtube. It’s disappeared!
