2008 IMC Registration

Sorry if this was already posted. From the IMC website

Entry Information for 2008 Subaru Ironman Canada
Author: H. Manning August 12, 2007
Penticton, BC - The demand for entry into Subaru Ironman Canada to be held on Sunday August 24, 2008 in Penticton, B.C. is expected to be very high. Historically, Subaru Ironman Canada has been one of the most popular Ironman events worldwide, with entry positions selling out within 24 hours of availability each year since 1998. Due to the high demand North America Sports has put into place the following Registration Procedures.
All general entry registration will take place on-site, in Okanagan Park where the Subaru Ironman Expo is located. You must be present to register and you may not register another person.

Registration for athletes entered in the 2007 race will take place on Saturday, August 25th between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, in Okanagan Park, wristbands and ID will be checked. At this time athletes from the local area may also register, there will not be local registration at the Subaru Ironman Canada office for 2008.

Open registration will take place on Monday, August 27th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Okanagan Park. Athletes competing in the 2007 race and locals may also register at this time. Please ensure you have photo ID with you at registration.

Should there be spots available after on-site registration; an announcement will be made in mid-September regarding entry process. We will also announce the number of Ironman Community Fund spots that will be available for Subaru Ironman Canada at that time.

Registration for those qualifying for the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championships will also take place in Okanagan Park on Monday, August 27th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. The rolldown of World Championship slots will take place at 11:15 am. You must be present to claim your entry slot.

Hmmm…so it looks like all those people who have decided to make a special trip up to Penticton this year for the specific purpose of signing up for next year can cancel their plans now. Seems like IMC keeps changing the '08 signup plans.

I don’t think you read it correctly. Athletes participating in 2007 and local athletes can register either on Saturday or on Monday. Monday is general registration and from my reading appears to be open to everyone.

Huh? Being there looks like the only way to sign up.

Woo read it correctly. If you want to be in the race, you have to register in person. Period. Thats how I read it, and thats what it says.

Thats a big bummer for me. I will be in Germany then supporting my lovely wife at worlds. Cant be in two places at once. I really want to do IMC as my first IM next year. I also had a friend lined up to sign me up. That option is now out the window.

Looks like a Community Fund slot for me (If I can get it). Man, these races are tooooo freaking popular. :frowning:

Keep in mind there are about 7 or so HIMs throughout the year where you can easily earn an IMC slot.

Thanks, Chris

Chris,

This is true, but I am a MOPer that on a really really good day “might” be in the top 25% of my AG. So what is the criteria to earn a slot though a HIM? Just curious. Thanks!

jimbo

A lot of them you just have to show up for the rolldown. I know at the Great White North 1/2, several IM slots end up in a draw (although, it was touch and go for a while whether they would even have the slots this year…)

How do I find out which HIMs bring the IMC qualify slots or roll down possibility? I will be at Timberman HIM this weekend. Cant wait!

See: http://www.nasports.com/qualify/imnaqual.php

Also, don’t worry too much since most of the FOPer doing these events aren’t looking for an IM slot. By the way, be proactive and find the RD (or appropriate person) to let them know you want an IMC slot.

Thanks, Chris

Maybe I interpreted it incorrectly. When I read:

“Open registration will take place on Monday, August 27th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Okanagan Park. Athletes competing in the 2007 race and locals may also register at this time. Please ensure you have photo ID with you at registration.”

I thought when they said “locals” they were referring to people who actually live in the region, as opposed to people who just happen to be up there.

I believe what that means is that 2007 athletes and locals who have missed their other opportunity earlier, can register with the unwashed masses.

If you read the second paragraph (hard to make out w/ the formatting) it says:

“All general entry registration will take place on-site, in Okanagan Park where the Subaru Ironman Expo is located. You must be present to register and you may not register another person.”

The 3rd paragraph explains the process for those who are entered in 2007 and local athletes; basically they get to register early on Saturday.

The 4th paragraph starts as follows "Open registration will take place on Monday . . . " Thus anyone can register on Monday. It also then clarifies that if 2007 participants and local athletes did not take advantage of early registration, they are also allowed to register on Monday.

Hope that clears it up for you.

Bottom line- 2007 participants and locals ONLY can register on Saturday. ANYONE present can register on Monday. End of story.

There will be no slots left for online… They get taken by onsite sign ups. They dont want people from south of the boarder, you hoser.

“They dont want people from south of the boarder, you hoser.”

Excuse me? I don’t think you meant to reply to me.

Actually they are defeating themselves because half or more are already American hosers there for the race … who will sign up on Saturday! Somebody better fix these borders better.
Seriously, it is nice to let current competitors sign up on Saturday … NAS treats its regular repeat customers well.

I will be there for the Monday sign-up. My question is DO I NEED TO CAMP OUT IN LINE STARTING SUNDAY NIGHT. I just got a note from someone who said that the number of people camping out in line last year was huge. If I stay in my friend’s hotel instead, and only arrive at 8 am Monday…am I still gonna snag a 2008 spot?

Jeez! I’m doing the race and will be doing IMLP next year, but feel like I should sign up for IMC 2008 just because I’m there and I can!

Well let’s put it that way:
Out of the locals (whatever that means in term of radius and population) and all of the 2007 registered athletes, how many many slots do you think will be available Monday after they registered on Saturday?

Fred.
