did you just list Danielson as a possible strongest rider for Discovery? seriously. i admire and respect the guy, and I think his climbing ability is phenominal, but he has never shown the mental experience to even be considered as a leader of a team, much less Disco.
As much as i would like to see Levi win, not only because he’s an american, but he’s such a dang nice guy, I don’t think he is strong enough. and i don’t think disco has a strong enough domestique team to pull him to the champs in the top 5.
my vote goes to valverde. experience, strength, and team combine for a strong tour showing.
but hey, I’m American, so my prediction is most likely going to be wrong.

There’s really no point trying to predict a winner until we know who is going to be allowed to start. I think Valverde, Contador, Vino and Kloden are all at risk for not starting, though it appears the Astana boys have made it through the Telecom revelations so far and may only get nailed by the Mazzoleni/Elisa Basso investigation in Italy at this point.
Levi can’t be ruled out - he’s finished 5th before and of the guys that finished in front of him really only Vino is still around (at least so far). Plus I think he still has a place in Gerona, which apparently has great water for building your blood.
I didn’t know Cunego was out of the tour (who else does Lampre have?). I would love to see Levi win. He is a great rider and has one of the strongest teams, but I wonder if he has the killer instinct.

Absolutely I did. What you say is true, but nonetheless he has been their leader in 2 grand tours with 2 top 10 finishes. I don’t think Discovery with be controlling the peloton going into the 1st mountain stages, Astana will. It’s fairly simple. If one of Discovery’s guys puts a couple of minutes on the others after the 1st couple of mountain stages, that’s who the team will ride for. Personally, I think it will wind up being Contador or Levi but I don’t completely discount Tom’s chances.
Valverde(my favorite rider) is my pick for the win as well.

I beleive strong possible candidates for the win are, in no particular order, EPO, HGH, Testosterone and perhaps some sort of new synthetic that no one has a test for.
And after that, probably schleck.
