Nope. Not sure I could have afforded it this year anyway but it was worth a shot. Will likely sign up again next year.

nope:( Next year;)
.

Nor me, 0 for 5 now.

Hey Julian, at what point do you say screw it and not enter anymore?

At one of two points:

  1. When the roll down in my age group gets to 11:28, which is not too likely in the 40-44!

  2. Or when I get an hour and a half of my time and qualify.

Or I guess ther would be a number 3, when I either can’t train anymore or can’t afford to train any more.

It’s a dream I can’t give up on.

He could always shoot for my score – 0 for 9.

I always feel like a Jewish kid on Christmas on lottery day. I know I probably won’t get anything. I see some friends getting what they want. I probably wouldn’t know how to react if I got what I wanted. But I’ll be at the tree next year.

Nope, but I didn’t throw my name in this year. I’m 1 for 1 though after winning a slot last year, so I figure the next time I go, it’ll be with a qualifying slot–no matter how long it takes me!

Yeah, we’re in the same age group and my last IM time was 13:10 so I don’t see me qualifying anytime soon. So it’s back to the lottery next year.

Damn! Maybe next year.

I really wish they listed States for the US winners. I see 2 names of people I know but don’t know for sure if they are the actual winners. I have never entered and don’t plan to in the near future.

Nope.

But I will try again for next year.

Not this year…

Blasphemy!

Then you wouldn’t mind entering for me and I can go in your place if you win? Of course I’ll pay for your entry fee.

For some of us, this is the closest we’ll ever come to being in the “Olympics” of Triathlon.

I played this lottery, just like I do the Mega Millions. You can always dream. In a way though I am glad I didn’t get a lottery spot. It will feel much better to go when I qualify on my own. I did the Boston Marathon on an invitational entry, not through qualification. Everyone told me I should do it since it is the “premier” marathon and I shouldn’t pass up the opportunity.

However, I always felt kind of cheesy doing it and that I should have earned the spot through qualification. I did in fact qualify for it last year, but passed up entering this year to do IMAZ. Now that I qualified for Boston, I no longer feel the urge to do it.

If I got into Kona through lottery, I definitely never would have been able to rest until I qualified on my own. I will need to earn it.

Nah, I was just kidding. If they were transferable, there would be a lot more than 5,000 entrants and my odds would be greatly reduced.

On that note I wish they gave the breakdown of US and Non-US entries so that I could calculate my true odds. Likewise, how many went the “Passport” route to triple their chances.

no luck - time to keep working on getting faster
.

Not me. I do however, see the name of someone who I know has lottery’d twice before. Hitting it 3 times is unbelievable (math people, what are the odds?). Nice person and played by the rules, but I wish they would make the lottery a once in a lifetime deal. Just my sour grapes. I will be in Kona to cheer on my friends and dream of next year.

Gary Mc

Nope. Guess I need to go to Lake Placid this July and shave off about 90 minutes from my best IM USA time.

As for comments that it’s “overrated,” I would be happy to be the judge of that.
