2004 Worlds - 2004 St. Anthony's

Just realized a few days ago that next year’s St. Anthony’s Triathlon is scheduled to take place barely two weeks before the World Championships in Portugal.

St. Anthony’s Triathlon is scheduled to take place on August 25th while ITU World’s are scheduled to take place on May 8th.

It would be a shame not to have all those top-ranked amateur triathletes racing at St. Anthony’s.

Seems like the same will apply to the professional triathletes, who will be looking to race in Hawaii on April 18th and then in Portugal in an effort to qualify for the Olympic Games.

St. A’s is no longer an ITU race. They eliminated the pro race to make more $$$ off age groupers. They will add another 1000 amateurs and have 2 transitions. Its going to suck! I live in St. Pete and I’m having serious doubts about returning to my home race. Too dangerous and all in the name of greed! Its going to be another Wildflower experience.

I knew they had split from the ITU but I thought they were still going to have a pro race - just not ITU points and on the same day as the agegroup race. I guess like Wildflower or LA Tri.

They are going to add 1000 more amateurs!?!?! I can’t imgaine riding safely through the first 1/4 of that course with an extra 1000 people.

Two transitions? How is that going to work?

It sounds like a completely different race. Are they even using the same course?

Thanks

I don’t know how that might work. Maybe one transition at Vinoy park and one at Straub Park. All I know is the cap is 3000 athletes! I ride that route every Sat and it is way too technical to have that many cyclists (no matter how experienced) go off. Even if you have multiple waves, it is still too many. 3000 people will still be on the course at the same time.
