I was hoping someone could offer an alternative well organized race to the Ironhorse tri. I live in Chicago and am willing to drive a reasonable distance. I know it is last minute, but I wanted to get one in before Lifetime Fitness in July.
Thanks

I think there is one in Effingham, IL and one in WI in that time frame. go to chicagotriclub.com, they have a schedule of local races.
I’m in the same boat - looking for an alternative for that weekend. I’m probably going to sign up for the Aurora High Cliff 1/2 IM. It’s near Appleton, WI and should be about the same driving distance as Springfield. The course sounds nice and besides, Heather Gollnick and Dave Scott are supposed to be there - pretty cool. Check it out at: www.midwestsportsevents.com
www.raceforsight.org The ultramax people have a 1/4 ironman and a 1/2 ironman . I think both are the same weekend as the old ironhourse
Tinman in Wi - it was a great race last year…a large part of the run is off road…kinda cool.
You must mean the Wisconsin Dells Tinman. I don’t remember ever running offroad (at least not on purpose
in the Menomonie Tinman (also in Wisconsin and which is now on the same weekend as the Dells race - it used to be a late August race).
Nope, this is Tin Man in Baraboo…right by Ho - Chunk Casino. There was at least 5 miles of trail running.
"RUN: The 13.1 mile run will consist of two 6.55 laps. The 6.55 loop consist of half pavement and half trail run. There will be porta-potties by the transition area and porta-potties on the run turn-around"

Sounds like a cool event. I love trail running. But do we really need three 1/2IM races in Wisconsin on the same weekend? Is there that much demand in Cheeseland? ![]()
The 1/2 max is a great race…did it last year…Ironhorse was flat flat flat…1/2 max run is hills hills hills…so if your hoping for flat, then stay away!
The new race in Appleton should be nice…great area…a little longer ride from Chicago than Springfield (Ironhorse)…maybe 1/2 hour longer…
It’s the same race – Baraboo and the Dells are right next to each other. Record10 is right – a lot of tough trail running.
The only other half IM in Wisconsin that weekend is a new race near Appleton. Should be well run. Gloria West has been a top-notch race director for many years.

No, there are three 1/2IMs in WI that weekend. There is also the Tinman in Menomonie.
You’re right Gonzo, sorry about that. I forgot that they had resurrected that race. It died and came back to life.
I agree that those race directors need to get together and spread those races out a little. Not real smart to have 3 half IM races all within a few hours’ drive of each other.
I’m gonna give that High Cliff race in Appleton a whirl. It should be a very good venue.
