2002 Ironman Hawaii

I just finished watching Ironman Hawaii 2002 on NBC Universal Channel (Channel 4.4 in New York and Los Angeles) and had some questions:

  1. Marc Herremans raced that year for the first time as a disabled athlete. He was allowed to use a wetsuit during the swim. Is that normal for all paralyzed athletes?

  2. In 2006, Normann used the Point Zero speed suit and it seemed that everyone used one in 2007. But from the scenes after the 2002 swim, it seems that many were using some type of suit during the swim. What was popular back then?

  3. The bike setups seemed horrible. When did FIST become popular?

  4. The swim had pretty bad swells. Has there been any that bad since that time?
