2001 QR PicanTi...Opinions?

About to pull the trigger. Any thoughts? Size looks perfect for me (medium with 53.5 cm top tube). I am 5’9.5" and 180lbs. Mostly flat courses but some hilly rides are not out of the realm of possibility. Probably doing some halfs this year and a couple of sprints along with some fast group training rides.

I have a buddy with one, your height, a little lighter, he loves his. I’d tell you a story about how he got his, but, it would make you sick. Let’s just say he got a good deal, and he likes it even better because he got a good deal.

I got one. I’m 6’-0" and ride the Large. It’s got a very nice ride as you might expect with the Ti. It’s not real low in the front, so keep that in mind regarding setup. Then again the medium is a 650, I think, so never mind. I did every bit of training and racing on it last year including sprints, olys, 2 halfs, and IMFL. I think you’ll like it. Not too many around.

Hey Mike

I have a 2002 PicanTi in size “ML”. I am 5’9" and the top tube on my bike is 54cm. Sounds like that bike should fit you nicely. QR seems to have changed the bike a fair bit over the product lifespan and then pulled the plug after 2003 model. I think many tri bike buyers were confused by this bike. I am pretty happy with my bike as it fits me well. Given its production by the same welders that make Litespeeds, it is well made with beautiful looking welds. It is really bullet proof as well.

It is plenty stiff for me in BB area which I attribute to sloping top tube and fact that seat tube diameter actually varies from top to bottom (wider at the bottom). My model year is the one with a quasi aero down tube but some other model years looked different. Having said that, the only down side I can see is that it is not a particularly aero frame. It has round stays and verticle drop outs which are not in vogue these days. I don’t think it is unaero…just not as aero as a P3 or the new Lucero. In the grand scheme of things I am not so sure how important that really is.

Let us know what you decide to do.

It does? I got a 2002 also, and I never noticed that??

Get some calipers and measure it. Not sure how they manufactured/extruded that but mine in narrower diameter as you go up.

If it’s that one on the preownedbikes.com site, you should get it. It’s a sweet ride, with a lifetime warranty. All I ride is QRs, and that’s since the early 90’s. Good bikes.

Decided to go for it. Won’t see it for two weeks though. I have to go to Lemoore California next week so it will be waiting on me monday the following week. Picked up the one at preownedbikes.com. Seemed like a steal.
