Anybody recall a picture of the swim start of this race in a triathlon magazine, on the cover or otherwise? I am certain one is out there, but can’t remember which magazine or where it was in the issue…or which issue, for that matter.

xtri.com has this wallpaper, although the image is from 2002 - not '00. A great picture - really captures the chaos of a 2000-person mass start!
I think that was the year that the fog cleared as the singer did the national anthemn. The picture will be all over LP when I am there in three weeks. It shouldn’t be hard to track down.
there’s a pro photographer who shoots the swim start from the same spot every year. i bought it, blew it up and it’s hanging on my wall at work. i’m in there somewhere. if you want i can try and dig up the website where i bought it.

Yes! Would love to find out who shot that picture. I lined up pretty close to him and my mug is just about front and center.

I’ve got a poster designed by Spitfire Design, photography by Steve Tomlinson. Poster contains an overhead (like from a helicopter) shot of the IMUSA swim start. Poster is from IMLP '00, but the photograph might be from the '99 race.
