I’m planning on doing 2 IM’s this year. The 2nd is 4 weeks after the 1st
what sort of base/build/taper would be recommended?
I am only looking to “finish” both
Thanks

I won’t comment on base/build/taper, because I’m not qualified to do so. However, I will say that I admire you for attempting this. There might be a few people who chime in to tell you you’re crazy and advise against the 2 IM’s in 4 weeks. Don’t listen to those guys. Take the advice of those who can offer positive guidance on how to reach your goal.
Good luck.
“It can’t be done, it’s not humanly possible.” Joe Bonness (just kidding) seriously, here’s what he does.
The first IM is just a good workout for the second one. But be sure you race the first one as if it’s the only one.
Week One Active Recovery. All workouts aerobic, low heart rate.
Day 1 - Very easy run, 2 miles, day after race. Run until your legs feel good, then stop. Easy swim 500 yards
Day 2 - Bike 25 miles, short swim. start building over the remainder of the week
Week 2 Stay aerobic, moderate heart rate at max.
Week 3 Back into full base, working on speed.
Pre-Race week Taper and race prep. All workouts at race pace.

Be advised not to listen to Joe Bonness. The fact that a recent blood sample has detected alien DNA in his system has been hushed up. USCF rules are being rewritten to disqualify him from future races on that basis.
Have you considered being a motorcycle marshall at one of these races? That’s the only way I’d attempt it, then again, I’m CERTAINLY NOT Joe Bonness. No way could I run until my “legs feel good” the day after an IM…maybe a couple of weeks afterward!

Not true. They are making a new category. *Athletes competing without a central nervous system. *

I was going to post but then Joe Boness posted, that about killed the thread ![]()
.
He didn’t mean to kill it!
Post anyway! I once heard someone descibe his training methods as “don’t try this at home”. Joe might be a smartass, but he’s not a coach. ![]()

Do it! Kick some ass! WooHoo! Sounds like fun! I’m doing WIS and FLA 8 weeks apart, I’m really looking forward to it.
Forget it when people tell you it can’t be done, that’s just them saying that they don’t want to do it. Have fun, and enjoy getting tired! That’s the part I love!
Sorry I can’t offer any workout advice.

I did Hawaii in '98 and then Great Floridian 3 weeks later. I became injured in January '99, and I’ve been battling injuries ever since. Train smart and race smart, and you should be alright. I did neither of the two, though, and I haven’t been alright ![]()
