2 bikes, 1 wheelset?

Have an 07 P2SL with a wheelbuilder Kinlin/powertap rear and a Shimano R500 front. Have a cover and a 404 front and latex tubes for racing.

Bought a used 07 Giant OCR C2 (same compact crank/and 12/25 rear), which has Mavic Aksium Race wheels, and 25mm(!!) pr2 tires. I thought the Aksiums would be a step up from the R500 but I guess they’re pretty much the same if not worse - I’d say the R500 front is even lighter.

Goal was to try my hand at some beginner road races next spring, so I’d like the PT on whatever bike I’m using.

So now I’m thinking to just sell the Mavics, and just rock one set of wheels. Both bikes will never be in use at the same time, and I have a bike hook to hang the non-used frame in my garage.

Any reason not to do this? I’m sure someone will pay 100 bucks or more for some decent training wheels. Any reason to keep the mavics and sell the R500s instead?

swapping training tires off and race tires on is annoying

you could always get cheaper training wheels though
.

what if you want to roofrack both bikes at once? You need two rear wheels for both racks. What if a friend comes to visit and you want to ride? What if you get a flat and don’t have time to fix it, wouldn’t it be nice to have a spare wheel? Do you really want to switch wheels every time you switch bikes? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a set of pit wheels for road races?

In short…it’s not worth the $100 you might get from the wheels. Keep 'em you’ll be happy you did.
