1st rotorized podium finish!

Woo-hoo!
I just podiumed at a provincial TT! I thought I was having an off day, as I was originally aiming for a PR and fell off the pace when the wind proved to be harder than I thought. In the end it was enough for 2nd place (Masters A)! This is my highest placing at the provincial level ever, and I definitely credit a large part to ROTORS (and a good, consistent training program).

The guy who won also won the provincials last year, and will be hard to beat, but I am super-motivated.

I’m off to ride…

Dave

Special thanks to Herb at FACT-Canada!!

Good race. Any guess how much faster the rotor cranks might have made you, realizing of course this is very subjective.

BTW, what frame did you eventually get?

congrats. would you still have won if the competition had rotorcranks?

Objectively, I can only compare my placings. Two years ago, on a good training program, I ended up 6th (on a different bike and windier conditions). Last year I placed 5th, with calmer conditions than this year. This year, the conditions were weird, with very little wind on the start side, but a head/cross wind on the back side. I had hoped for a PR, but it was not to be, as I was actually 37 seconds slower this year, but everyone had the same conditions. I think I had forgotten how hard the course was, as there were a couple of climbs that were like “F@#$! where did this come from?!”

Subjectively, I felt on top of my gears, and quite comfortable in a relatively low cadence (~80 RPM). This I had noticed at a club TT a few weeks ago, where I PR’d by :30 seconds in brutal crosswinds (even with a death wobble mechanical on my front trispoke …I have to get rid of that thing…all-in-all I felt that I would have been faster by 15-25 seconds, but numbers are all that I have). All this to say that in THAT race (15 km), I felt that I was 30-45 seconds faster because of the ROTORS. I await the flames of the powercrankers out there…

I ended up with an ABICI TIME MACHINE ROAD. Very sweet. Road geometry (74 degrees), very comfortable for an aluminum aero-tubed bike. I have to say that I love it very much. My position (slammed by slowtwitch standards, actually just a bit forward of my road position) feels great, with pseudo straight bars (ovals cut off at the 2nd bend), and nondescript aero fork. It looks great, and we all know that is what really counts!

Why are you awaiting the flames of the PC’ers. No PC’er that I know of, including me, deny that Rotors can offer some advantage, even to PC’ers. The tools are completely different and additive it seems, not mutually exclusive. The question in my mind is not “is there an advantage?” but, rather “how big is the advantage?”. I do think the advantage offered by the PC’s is greater (including the run advantage for triathletes) so would be a better first choice for most, if they are willing to do the work required as the PC advantage comes much slower and requires a lot of work and dedication. If they are not, then RC’s would be a better first choice.

It certainly seems, however, that PC’ers will have an easier time adapting to RC’s than RC’ers will have adapting to PC’s if someone wants the advantages of both.

The 1st place guy is a monster, and THANK GOD, he does not seem to have RC’s or PC’s.
