This is more of a piggyback thread on the 13.1 before marathon.
In few weeks, I am planning on running, pacing my friend, second half of his marathon around 6:45 pace. A week before the race, I found a 15K race that I want to do as a my final long quality run but mostly get some race environment simulation. The plan is to go out first 10K around 7 / 7:05 and then drop to 6:30ish pace for last 5K. I have bulit few weeks of average 35MPW of solid running with last two weeks in 45 miles range broken into 6 runs per week.
13.1 at 6:45 but a week beforehand 15K “race” as my final long quality run. So question is: go out there be a hero and race 15K at lower pace then 6:45 or just use it as a race simulation even and save your legs
Why do you need a “race simulation” to pace your friend on the second half of his marathon? The assumption, since you said that you’re just pacing your friend, is that 13.1 @ 6:45/mile is fairly easy for you. So, why would you be worried about “racing” less distance at a slower pace a week before?
How does that pacing your friend for the second half work anyway? Just jump in at the halfway point as a bandit?

The “race simulation” is nothing to do with pacing him but mostly for myself. I haven’t done any competition since August. Personally, I think there is a big difference to run on your own and in group of racers. Little mental trick if you wish…
Yes, I would bandit it. Hop in and hop off before the finish.
