Told you a couple of days ago about our cosy little Irondistance club competition: the Iron Duck.
Well it went exactly as planned and forseen: 10 showed up on the beach today. 9 newbies and my cracy friend that did the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon Crew Race last weekend and the IronDuck this weekend. So far 7 have crossed the finishing line, and it looks like we will get everybody over that line.
Don’t know if i’m proud, but I’m very satisfied. and very cold

Cool idea. I may try it with my crew. I always do super distance stuff in the winter as part of base building. I start with an hour swim on Halloween, then a 5K swim, 50 mile bike 5 mile run on Thanksgiving weekend, building to 7.5K/75 mile/7.5 mile on Christmas eve and 10/100/10 on New Years eve. If we shorten the swims and double or triple the runs, we just might have an IM distance for New Years Eve…
And without paying $400+ for the privelege of hurting ourselves!
Excellent. Now all you have to do is convince all those nordic skiers in Norway that tri is excellent cross training. I’m actually very surprised that tri is not a much bigger participation activity in Norway.
Thank you Mr Tibbs. I had some dark moments, and remembered your kind words from that other thread. helped me to keep going. That, and the one telling me if you DNF you don’t show you’r ugly face here anymore.
“All planes have returned safely to base”. Had to go to bed before the two last finished, but here they are now. 100%. Better than the first IronMan. And four girls. Any girls in the first IM?
Well, we touched into that theme a couple of times, and I think the problem is very simple: No competitions. There has been only one good triathlon that has been arranged every year, an ID. So triathlon as a product is very uninteresting for those from our national sport. Even though many of them are “multisporters”, but without competing.
I know not everyone one here has been impressed with the HP Norseman Xtreme Triathlon, but that is a competition that gets very much attention in local and national media, it shouts “TV coverage”. That competition may be a bridge for the skiiers.
Way to go, and as a bonus, you can take the 800 or so bucks you saved on doing a real one, and buy yourself something cool. You could even buy an Ironman Tshirt and have some change.
