I think it is great that WTC is trying to reward those that have done 12IMs. Completing 12 IMs is a great accomplishment with alot of commitment. I would love to see them offer a free entry to the race of your choice(excluding Kona). That would be a free slot without having to volunteer/ play the computer race game/pay foundation fee, etc. Kind of like buy 12 Subway footlongs get the 13th free. i know it won’t happen but it would be nice.
And the punch card is 12 corporate logos tattooed on your leg. Now that is committed.

Finishing 12 Ironmans only means that you have the time and the money to do so.I’m not so sure about it being " A great accomplishment".
I agree…having the time and the money. There is this total ahole I know that all he does is IMs, enters the lottery every year, and finds ‘interesting’ ways to afford it.
They should make it 12 full distance Ironman races in one calendar year.

Now THAT deserves a Kona slot!

Just buy your way to Kona through Ebay auction a lot cheaper that travelling around the world for 12 full Ironman distance… And you will get into Kona more rested! ![]()
You don’t have to travel the world. You can do all 12 of your races in North America (not all in the same year). You could even do the same one 12 years in a row.

I was just replying to the post that suggest to 12 IM in one single year which requires to travel outside North America in that case… I have done 7 IMLP almost in a row and decide to move to other venue…
Completing 12 Ironman races is not an accomplishment??!! I’ve been racing tri’s of all distances for years and years. I sat down to add up my IMs and I still only have 8 to my name. Total garbage to say that completing 12 IMs in not a major accomplishment. And all you need is time and $$??!! Huh??!! Don’t you also need to get out and train every day for say 6-10 years straight. Isn’t that’s what being rewarded along with the IM brand loyalty?
I have 8 as well, and agree that while it is something, it speaks more to the amount of time and money you have than actual talent. And there is a huge difference between completing and competing. Without training specifically for it-I know I could COMPLETE an IM under 17 hours, tomorrow. It wouldnt be pretty and I would not feel hot but could be done.

its only an accomplishment if you did them fast
Ahh, ok, got it. What is the time cut off for them to be considered an accomplishment vs. “just being an a-hole with time and money”? I’m dying to know which one I am.
i’ll cut you some slack and just say, top 10% in your age group
.
Ok, got it. I guess my wife is right. Usually I’m an a-hole. On the rare occasion, I’m not.
