Just out of curiosity. I’m trying to run sub 3:10 on a hilly course in 5 weeks, yesterday ran a hilly/windy 10K at 99% effort, finished in 39:43. According to the Mcmillan Running Calculator, that puts my marathon at a 3:06-something.
How have your 10K times compared to your marathon times when well-trained?
I haven’t been able to match my 10K times with the predicted marathon times (execution mostly). Just tried this recently (3 weeks ago) with a good 5K, 5mile, 10K, 15K and 1/2 mary times all recent. Should have been a good correlation based on McMillian calculator or Daniel’s. Paced good for the first half, too fast from 13-17 and then paid for it. McMillian had me running a 2:49-3:03 based on those other race times (ended up 3:08 with my bad execution). Was hoping for 2:58. Just stick to your guns with pacing and try to negative split as best you can. I’ve done marathons where I feel fine from 20-26.2, but that was because I went out too easy (and my time was then poor). I’ve gone out too hard and death marched in. This time, I though I had it - but not quite. Damn race … hard to get it just right (time vs. pain that is).
