Hey guys,
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has participated. I would say out of 550+ signed up we have around 350 active athletes in the sense that these people are running a third of the days or more.
Coming into day day 50 today we are lined up to potentially have 75 people hit 50 runs in 50 days (and no, I am not one of them, I am 4 runs behind the pace).
Hopefully to now you have enjoyed this process.
Let me share a short story. In 2007, I ran 100 days in a row. It started with running every day over the Xmas holidays and then every day in Jan and then I thought I could hit 50 days. So I actually ran 30 minutes on Mirror Lake Drive in Lake Placid in early Feb the morning before racing the Lake Placid 50K XC ski race. I had a great raced and podium’d in my age group that day.
It was kind of special doing that 50th run in Lake Placid on a piece of pavement (albeit snow covered that day), where I have had my share of elation and blowups. I am now up to 9 finishes at Ironman Lake Placid and hope to finish my 10th this year.
Anyway, the day after the 50th, I ran a 51st day and then thought that 100 days in a row just might be possible. And I pulled it off. That year, EH who is currently ranked second in the challenge and Jana also did it with different start and finish dates.
Last year we went to a google spreadsheet based option and with some support from Herbert, Slowman and Rappstar, who invested in the infrastructure we are now set up here on ST.
A BIG THANK YOU TO THE ST GUYS WHO HOST US AND A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL ATHLETES.
Dan has written in the past that one of the things that helps us elevate our training and race day performance is an enclave of athletes where peer pressure can service as a motivator…it elevates us and can also kill us. They doit in San Diego, Leysin, Victoria, Mallorca, the Gold Coast and Boulder producing many champions.
While we don’t expect any world champions coming out of this for you and I the working stiffs, this digital enclave of like minded athletes is the next best thing.
I hope you are enjoying and training safe!
sincerely
