10-speed components expect shifters, will it work?

Hi,

Im waiting for delivery of my new DA 10 STI shifters.

Sadly, I have to wait another two weeks. Im getting restless as I have every component on the bike expect the STI shifters. All “shifting components” are Dura Ace 7800 (wheels, chain, front/back derailleurs, cassette and Crankset).

This Friday I will receive my wheels, so my question is, can I use my old Shimano 105 shifters and only use 9 cogs on the 10-speed cassette or will the 105 shift to long, that is longer than the “cog spacing” on the 10-speed cassette.

I have already waited many weeks for the STI shifters, and now I would like to use my new bike on an upcoming training camp so I can get some miles on the bike before I race it.

Regards
Martin

You can use the 105 shifters no problem…just set it so that you know which gear out of the ten you can do without…for example, on an 11-23 cassette I would do it to miss out on the 11 and have the 23 at the top…

set your shifters to friction shift instead of index and it will work fine
