My daughter got the 2007 Prius with 170K, still going strong at 240K. She just completed her second 140.6, the “Fully Booty” in NC. Bike rides great in the back, 2nd seat down. Don’t know anyone disappointed with the reliability of a Prius.

Not a lot of young guys would strike up a conversation with, “Got rid of the Jag, but now I’m driving a Prius. They’re so reliable!”

I bought the Prius with 26.5k in 2015. It was a fleet vehicle.
#1 got his moving infraction out of the way last year, so that is not the issue.
Going back to 2016, we were warned that the Jag was going to bite us in the a$$. It has! We bought it for $3k and have put another $5k into it. We are facing another $2k at the minimum, just to have it pass inspection by the end of the year. At this point we realize we should listened and bought a $10k low-mileage vehicle.

We bought a Mercedes C450. Lease return. Kept it for 2 years, routine maintenance and license tabs were 2-3x what I thought they should have been.
Lost some $$, but ended up with a Subaru Ascent. Love it, more features than the Mercedes, but definitely not the plush ride.

Did this post bring back some memories. The first car I bought was a JAG and my father just laughed at me. 6 months later I knew why he was laughing, but I was 16 and having a JAG was cool. I sold it to my friend’s father and bought a Honda Civic which lasted me another 10 years. I think ever kids first car should be a Honda or Toyota since the damn things last forever.

No, every kid’s first car should be a 60s/70s MG or Jag or Triumph or whatever. They will learn more about mechanical and electrical systems than any of their peers and will be able to cope with an astonishing range of real world challenges.
