1 inch fork steering tube used with frame for 1 1/8 inch

I have a pretty nice Easton aero carbon fork that has a 1 inch steering tube. If I get a new frame next year would the frame have to be specifically for a 1 inch fork?

It would seem to me that I should be able to make a 1 inch fork work with a 1 1/8 inch frame somehow.

You can make a 1 inch fork work with a frame designed for a 1 1/8. The headset does need to be designed/installed for a 1 inch steerer though.

Thanks.

Chris King used to make a ‘devolution’ headset that did just that.

The Campagnolo hiddenset will take care of your needs if you decide on a 1.125" frame that uses an integrated headset with a 41.8mm - 42.0 mm bearing outer diameter. Their 1" hiddenset has the same bearing OD as the 1.125" one. Some others use the 41.4-41.5 standard. I’m not aware of a headset that will reduce that integrated standard, but Park tools and Campagnolo both make the reamers needed to recut the headtube.

Mmmmm… Campy frame tools…

Look around, ask your local LBS there are adapters you install in your head tube that accepts a 1 inch headset,i have used them on a MTB,if you can not find any info email me and i will find out where i got mine. Also if you want to keep the fork, when you get the new frame just get one for a one inch fork

I should mention that I just used a campy headset do do exactly what the OP is asking about. In this headset it is as simple as installing a part in one orientation or the other.
