1/2 IRONMAN World Championships

I read in the newspaper the other day that the 1/2 Iron World Championships were to be held in Clearwater, FL in the fall of 2006. This should be great except for the fact that I think you have to qualify for this which will leave me out. Finally a big race in my town and I won’t be able to enter. Oh well, I’ll volunteer and pay some long overdue dues. Can anyone confirm the qualifying requirements? Also, I wonder how this may affect the scheduling for IMFL.

If the event follows any of the previous WTC tactics it will be placed at a date to inflict maximum damage on the Great Floridian in Clermont.

This will likely be happening in Fall of 2006 (though my guess is not in OCT to inflict damage on the GF or it’s own race in Hawaii) and YES you will have to qualify for it in the same manner you would qualify for Hawaii IM … except you will qualify at Half Ironman races around the globe (Disney, St Croix, Blackwater, Half Vineman, Ralphs, Lubbock, Honu etc.)

How about its effect on the U.S. Half Championship? That is September 25 this year; and idea on the date of the 1/2 IM Championship for '06?

Won’t effect the race in Kansas City either. Late Septemeber would be tough as they are preparing for Hawaii … my instinct says November? You’ll see exact details very soon.

The announcement form this is due any day now. I know this because I know of a half race near me that is going to have slots allocated to it. I was told that the worlds may be placed somewhere more european though…
