08 Sworks Transition and Sub 9

I talked to Specialized today and they said that the sub9/transition fit was iffy. They mentioned that the disc will fit, but will rub with little torqu applied. I then called Zipp and they said that they were not aware of any fit issues on the Transition. I thought the pro teams uding the transition were running sub 9’s. Can anyone give me info on the sub 9 fitting the transition? Thanks

I’ve run the Sub9 on my Transition without incident, did Malibu Oly last year with it. Things were close to the front of the chainstays, but I was on a rolling course and didn’t experience any rubbing on the climbs, or anytime out of saddle for that matter.

rode the same, s-works 2008 carbon transition size 54 with zipp sub 9 at LA tri, Malibu sprint and IM Arizone, no issue. Seen some good side winds and done out of the saddle climbing and not noticed anything. There were some rumors flying about this last year and i posted a message as well before getting the sub 9. Nobody has so far reported an issue with that combination. Maybe there is an issue with the smallest frame since this keeps coming up? Not sure?

No issues on my medium- I think it is an '08.
The hot set-up is to take a set of carbon specific pads and sand/file/grind/cut them down so they are pretty thin. That way you have tons of clearance. You don’t really need much rear brake-

Thanks for the response. Can someone send me a pic of a Sub 9 on your transitions. I’m curious about the clearance between the disc and the stays. Are we talking mm here?

FWIW - I just talked to the tri sales guy at my LBS last week and apparently the P4 has the same issue. The disc fits, but when you come out of the saddle the frame flex is going to rub.

It sounds like this isn’t just a Transition issue.

The stays are not the issue- plently of room there. The issue is brakepad clearance. If you just open the brake more at some point the right side of the brake will hit the chainrings. So the fix is to run brake pads that are thinner than what you would run for training. I am not much of a sprinter but I did do a prologue tt on my transition/sub9 that had a lot of out of the saddle climbing- I used the thin brake pads. No hitting at all.
