04 P2K paint probs, HELP?

Hi Guys. I saw a post by klehner with a picture of oxidizing top tube by the cable entry/exits. I have a similar prob. Paint’s bubbling and starting to chip. I BABY this bike. Its my first big leap into the tri-world. I love the Cervelo. Will probably stay Cervelo in the future, but this kind of taints it. Its the only thing that I’m worried about. Any ideas?

Chris

There clearly was a problem with the paint on these bikes, but Cervelo hasn’t come out and admitted it. Take some pictures and send them to customer service at Cervelo, explaining your history with the frame. Don’t take “you should take better care of your bike” for an answer. They might offer you what they offered me (a P2SL or P3SL at a steep discount) if they have those frames around.

Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Be nice, though.

I have never had a problem with my 2004 P2K and I do not baby it. Paint job is solid.

If you sweat on the top tube …and do not wash it EVERY TIME…it WILL ruin the paint…sweat is VERY corrosive.

just my 2 cents.

Do you mean on every bike or the 04 P2K?

For me…every metal bike…steel or AL…I have destroyed a few QR’s…lol
.

It’s easy then: just stop sweating.

Seriously, this should not be an issue: bike paint that can’t withstand sweat is something like car paint washing of in the rain. Bicycle manufacturers should take care of that. (by that I mean the first thing)

Have you looked at your chain stay recently?

Thanx for the advice. I do clean the bike after every ride. I’ll call customer service. In your experience, are they pretty good about getting back to you in reasonable time?

At the time I raised this issue with Cervelo, they were understaffed in customer service, and didn’t provide the speed of response I expected. I had to “escalate” the issue, and got a more prompt response. I understand they’ve rectified the problem, although I have had no further interaction with them.

How does it go…

Horses sweat

Men perspire

Women glow

Canadian customers, including myself, have “Perspired” & “Glowed” in the winter indoors on Blue 2005/06 T12’s & now 2007 T14’s with zero paint defects over three years since I have been the distributor. Probably not the best thing, but I normally wipe down the bike with the same towel I used on the bike.

Last winter I rode my alum. Blue CX 6.5 cross bike in sever conditions ranging from, sleet, snow, rain & all with a generous amount of salt that the snow plow guys use with wild abandon. Again, zero issues.

I am sorry to hear you have had such bad experiences. What models have you destroyed?
