riding in Portugal in April?
Hi everyone -

I'm looking at a week in Portugal in the first half of April. Will likely be based in Carvoeiro, on the coast about 65km west of Faro. I've been to Lisbon but never down south, and speak enough French and Spanish that I can bash around a tiny bit in Portuguese.

anyone know the area well? i'm wondering about renting road bikes, finding good routes to ride and run, guesses about weather, maybe a pool ... just any local knowledge appreciated.

not an expert
public swimming pool in lagoa is good.
you definitely want to ride to sagres and the cliffs
plenty of bike hiring available
and the hinterland is quite ok with little traffic
silves is a nice town.
there is a great run outside lagos passed the light house and lagos is a nice town for an afternoon as well
and april is a good time for wildflowers

I have parked at Silves and ridden up to Foia, a climb used on the Algarve Tour. Pack plenty of water as, from memory, there aren’t many options to refill.

Watch for wild dogs!

It is not like in Spain. In Portugal you will not see many cyclists. Sometimes it is lonely :-)

It is quiet safe with cars. Not too much traffic, even on bigger roads.

Not sure what the rules are in term of ads here so my apologies if I am infringing the website rules but my wife organises cycling & nutrition retreats in Algavre (hotel is 30 minutes from Faro airport). The cycling around here is absolutely top notch if you know your way around! More details here: https://www.karellelaurentnutrition.com/...ion-wellness-holiday. She is registered nutritionist who has helped 200+ athletes from running to ironman.
