resources on taper
I've never been able to get a really good taper. I've read the Training Bible and a couple runners books but I can't seem to get the concepts down.

Can anyone recommend any resources on tapering and the concepts behind it?

My favorite would have to be Peak Performance On Line.

I believe there are several articles on tapering programs in the free library section.

Owen Anderson and the others at PPOL emphasize intense training rather than volume, so their take on tapering is a little different.

Not sure if you're planning on doing an ironman, but if so go to Gordo Byrn's website. I used this last year for IMLP and it worked great: http://www.byrn.org/taper.htm

He also has some other great tips at http://www.byrn.org/gtips.htm

Thanks for the links, I guess it does matter - currently I'm going to taper in about 2 more weeks for the Lubbock !/2 IM. I taper for 1/2 IM and marathons every year and so far have never gotten it completely right although last year I did OK for Lubbock using Friels methods.
