Fleck, do you think you would get some or all of the benefits of an "Epic Camp" if you picked one sport a month to go over the top on for a week?? For example, say you have a 4 week periodization scheme and in week #1 (first week after recovery) you blow it out by riding 400 that week with very little swim and run (assume your usual riding is ~100 per week). Then in the next 4 week block do the same with run, etc. In the other 3 weeks of a block you keep everything constant.
Some folks really have a hard time with TRUE periodization because the available hours they have to train vary little from week to week. And I PERSONALLY think that one can do well at IM by just doing a constant amount of consistent training week in and week out for a good period of time eg 20-30 weeks with only a slight degree of periodization as is forced on you by nature (ill, family, job, motivation, etc.) But the above "mini" Epic Camp might be a way to get in that overdistance work without compromising much.
Thoughts???
