powerman short course?
hi folks -

i'm finally living back in switzerland, relatively close to zofingen and at least approaching race fitness again.

i'm considering jumping into the short course at the powerman. partly as a fun experience, and partly with an eye toward doing the long course some day.

has anyone raced the short course at zofingen? have any experiences to share? tips on the course, on gear, nutrition, etc?

thanks!

Iron Mike - I've done both. You will like the short course I think. When you finish the 10K and get to the bike course, you will be folding in with long distance athletes who have already completed 1/3 laps. Because the elite women start nearly an hour ahead of elite men you will likely be passed by the women and then have the elite men on your heels. You will do one ~31 mile bike lap and then carve out a portion of the previous 10K course for your T2 --> 5K loop. Depending upon how fast you are, you will likely finish in the 12:30 - 1:00 pm timeframe which puts allows you to witness later afternoon action in the long race. The long elites begin their second run about then. The promoters have PZ organized so the spectators actually have a finish nearly all morning and afternoon (there is a charity 5K you can do that morning if you don't have bike). They'll take your money and get you registered right up until race time. There are some real ringers in the short race, e.g., former long winners, Natasha Badman...likely not Federer but who know. lol. And good luck!
