I saw someone who did this once by just cutting off the sleeve mid-bicep and tucking the last inch or two of the sleeve back under itself. He had typical scrawny triathlete arms and said it worked fine for him.

This is the same approach that I saw with someone who had to cut off the sleeves, because they showed up to a non-wetsuit swim Olympic distance event with a sleeved suit (not ITU legal for events shorter than middle distance). He cut the sleeves, about an inch or so before the end, then folded that "lip" under (not sure if he sewed it the night before at the hotel or not, since he realized the day before at the briefing that his suit was not legal).

I almost posted this is exact thing a few days ago but feared the backlash of being a redneck triathlete ;). I’ll be curious to hear if there are any disadvantages/issues with doing this.
