cortisone shot?!
2 weeks post IMAZ I was still having pretty serious pain in my ankle and swelling. Just returned from the doc and gave into the Dr's cortisone shot idea. Please convince me this was the right thing to do!
The doc was fluent in español y soy gringo. Would I have received a different diag in the states?

Can't tell you it was the right thing to do with only knowing you had pain and swelling. Is the pain gone?

I don't have a PCL in my right knee, I tore it playing hockey in high school. Well two years ago I went for a run in Jan, in Iowa, and slipped and twisted my knee a bit. I could barely walk on it for a couple months I got into the ortho who fixed my shoulder and he said we should try it first before we worry about anything else. So I said that was fine, I was biking that night and running within a week. I've had no problems since then with it besides the normal stuff i've always had. It was definitely better than I had hoped for.

Pain was gone, took the first pill 1x5, and icing right now. Will report back in 48 hours. He said don't run till Wed!

Maybe I am missing something here, but did you get any sort of imaging first?

Yes did they take any xrays? Would cortisone shots make things worse if you have stress fractures?

No. Here in Costa Rica people, not me, are hypochondriacs... The lack of imaging and the propensity to prescribe the pain away caused the worry. He was literally able to push on one spot and I confirmed it was the winner. Felt like a tendon, and I have been building up my mileage up very slowly. It wasn't what I would guess to be stress fracture pain(from running). Then again, I've never had one.

Well, personally I think you would be crazy to start running again without getting a MRI. I have had a torn tendon in my ankle and have had a stress fracture. They are nothing to mess with and a cortizone shot can certainly make the pain go away, but you could do some serious damage to your ankle. If you do have a slight tear in your tendon in your ankle and you start running again and completely tear it you may never run again (specifically if its the posterior tibialis).

I have to echo what 7summits say's, don't play around and make things worse.
