ST Awards: Male all-around pro
this is a tough one. we'll start with bevan docherty, only because he seemed to be everywhere on the planet, racing something or other, throughout 2007. this is what i can find of his results, tho i'm sure there are quite a few i'm missing.

4th Mooloolaba World Cup (Mooloolaba, QLD, AUS)
2nd HyVee World Cup (Des Moines, IA)
1st Edmonton World Cup (Edmonton, CAN)
2nd Ishigaki World Cup (Ishigaki, JPN)
2nd Escape from Alcatraz (San Fransisco, CA)
7th Life Time Fitness Triathlon (Minneapolis, MN)
6th Salford World Cup (Salford, GBR)
9th Triathlon World Championships (Hamburg, GER)
3rd Toyota U.S. Open Triathlon (Dallas, TX)
3rd Beijing World Cup (Beijing, CHN)
5th Xterra World Champs (Maui, HI)
1st New Zealand Triathlon Champs (Wellington, NZ)

what impresses about bevan is that he's not just a jack of all trades, he's very, very good at ITU racing. he's currently 4th ranked in the BG World Cup and this, though he finds time to race several or many no-draft races, and also slid in his schedule a 5th at Xterra worlds. i'm sure there are other off-road triathlons he's raced, though i don't know of them. what i don't know is, did he race long? that is, longer than short? and did he do a du or 2? any help in that regard is appreciated.

of course, he's got to overcome the results posted on and off-road by chris legh, as well as the summer/winter combo results of nic lebrun.

speaking of off-road and on, there's xterra specialist olivier marceau who's also posted an early 7th in the lisbon world cup this year and later on showed up to join a packed field in beijing to earn a respectable 14th.

Well, no xterra or itu races here, but I still think crowie needs to be considered for having done well at every distance (x-xterra). I might be wrong but for me all-around would have to include races that take longer than 4 hours, so my pick is crowie.

    bev is da man!

No, he hasn't raced any halfs in recent years. I believe he has done only one half so far (back in 2000 in France I believe which he won). No du EVER afaik.
He'll be hard to beat in Beijing.

    cheers
    uli

Surely "all-round" means someone who has not solely done IM or oly events, but both and maybe HIM too?

and Olivier Marceau can also go long if he wants to, don't know if he raced halfs this year though ? Even though, he did not have his best year in 2007.

Interesting to note that it is not easy to find names for this category, as less and less athletes do both short and long events.

I think Macca did a couple of short races (he does every year). So I'd put his name.

Oh, and Craig Alexander has been doing well in all formats this year (short course in Australia at the beginning of the year, halfs and obviously Ironman with his second in Hawaii).

I would probably vote for Crowie for all-around male this year.

    Terenzo Bozzone

Not sure that he mixed up the distances as much this year, but he is usually back and forth between Oly and HIM. Results weren't great this year, but he is only 22. Looks like he was injured this year, but had a good race in Hamburg.

I think he focused more on the ITU world cup this year, obviously to try and qualify for the Olympics next year. Had a few good placings.

I'd tend to vote for Macca for obvious reasons...

    I will throw my hat in for Crowie also, as for this years results that have been posted already, I don't think anyone has at least 3 categories covered as well as he does. I would have liked to throw Paul Amey's name in there, he has dominated duathlon worlds recently, but his tri stats were not quite there, and besides he still owes me $800 for a phone bill that he left me with 15 years ago...Maybe someone can give him a rib on his next ride for me. Actually to be fair, it was his girlfriend that he left with me for a week after he left, apparently she missed him......(-;

Monty, he is a brave man for leaving his girlfriend with ya :-).

But back to the thread, you have to give it to Alexander with Macca a close second!

I'll bump this as well. Potts won Oceanside, Escape from Alcatraz, Pan-Am games, had a top-25 ITU ranking with only 4 races, and "ho-hummed" his way to a world championship in Clearwater.

Give Crowie mid-distance, Macca long-distance, and Potts all-around, and prove that Slowtwitch doesn't have a long-course bias!

As for best amateur, it's Mac Brown all the way.
