9speed to 10 speed
I have a 9 speed set up, my shifter just broke my cassette is due to be changed also. Thinking just buying 10 spd shiffters, cassette and chain. Will it work with my ultegra 9spd crank set, and derailers? If it works it would be a good time, before I buy 9spd stuff again. Thanks

That's an easy upgrade! I actually went from 7 speed to 10 speed on my Blade last year, but had the pros at the LBS set me up.

I would just buy an 11 speed group and wheels.

That is some good advice. Except that if the OP does that, they don't actually have to buy new wheels.

Because there are a bunch of good, easy, and cheap ways to make one's older 8/9/10 speed wheels work flawlessly with 11-speed shimano drivetrains.

That might be fine now, but 11 speed didn't exist in 2007. He/she's probably gotten a new bike by now.

I suspect they get spammed then the spam post gets deleted, but the thread stays at the top. I was really surprised that anyone on ST could still be running 9 speed but then looked at the date.

Easy if your first road bike is 9 speed and you just haven't upgraded or bought anything else.

I'm still have 2 operational Mtbs on 9 speed.
(And multiple front chainrings. And 26' wheels. And the frame s are made from a new wonder material... Aluminium ðŸ˜)

That'll keep it on the front page for a day or two 🤣

I have two bikes using 8-speed cassettes, two with 6-speed freewheels, and one with a 5-speed freewheel.

One of the 8-speed cassettes is a Shimano HG51 11-13-15-18-21-24-28-32, the other is a SunRace 12-14-16-18-21-24-28-32. Both of the 6-speed freewheels are Shimano TZ21 14-16-18-21-24-28. The 5-speed freewheel is an ancient Maillard Normandy 14-17-20-24-28.

My Cannondale F2000 lefty is 8speed.
I've 2x 9 speed (cyclocross and commuter) but have in the last 3 months upgraded my 9speed winter roadbike and zwift rig to 10 speed.
