The NFL isn't about fair competition and playing the game ethically. It's about violence and money as demonstrated both on and off the field for years. Not sure if any of the big 5 pro-sports are about playing ethically anymore

Actually I think the answer is sort of. NFL doesn't fall under WADA, for that the NFL has to sign something with WADA. But USADA is a quasi governmental org.

I think they can investigate and US sport they please. The issue is they have no real power to do anything. They can find that BillyBob used steroids to get to be 6'4" 380pounds, but they can't ban him, can't fine, etc.

The only real way LA got banned is because races that signed the WADA code agreed not to let him race.

Actually pretty funny that all those shocked a LAs admission and long known steroid/ HGH/ Epo usage in cycling will be watching the superbowl this weekend .... where of course there is never any usage of peds and those massive builds are all just natural.
Not only at the pro level, but long term in college and high schools as well. OMG .... the hypocrisy of it all ;-)

The two biggest stories in sports this week is how Ray Lewis may have taken some bizarre PED and how Alex Rodriguez probably doped much more recently than he admitted. Not to mention the fact that none of the suspected MLB steroid users got into the HOF this year. PED use in these other sports is not being ignored.

This the funny thing if you watch ESPN on a regular basis. In the ESPN world, it's only cycling that has a pervasive doping problem; in American sports it's just a few bad apples.. They have a delusion that the NFL, MLB, etc has the most rigorous testing protocol in sports. They never mention that the players unions (which I'm sure management is ok with) blocks most significant protocols.

this is what boggles my mind.

minimum salary for the least-talented players in the NFL is $355 000, before any endorsements, bonuses, etc.

that's a pretty nice career earnings number for an equally-competitive swimmer, runner, triathlete or cyclist.

hell, the best soccer players are earning nearly that much per week.

and yet everyone's convinced that other sports are dirty, but quarterbacks can throw 50-yard bombs all year, or strikers can play 100 ninety-minute matches for a decade on nothing but wheaties and pushups.

Not quite. Soccer, hockey and basketball all have international federations and national governing bodies, which are required for IOC eligibility. Baseball has them, but they are not currently an Olympic sport. It is true they do not have jurisdiction over the professional leagues, but when members of the pro teams are selected for National teams, they do fall under the USADA/WADA umbrella.
